Saltalamacchia is not in the lineup for Friday's game against the Indians.
EDGE Analysis
Bobby Wilson will take over behind the dish, pushing Saltalamacchia to the bench after six straight starts. Saltalamacchia is making a case to keep a significant share of the workload upon James McCann's eventual return from an ankle injury, with five home runs in his first 35 at-bats this season.

Saltalamacchia finished 2-for-4 with his fifth home run and three RBI in Tuesday's loss to Kansas City.
EDGE Analysis
Saltalamacchia continues to rake and now owns and absurd .300/.364/.867 line on the season, and his five homers and 14 RBI both lead the Tigers. It's assumed that James McCann will retain the starting job when he returns, but he's a .259/.290/.376 hitter over his 127-game career, and if Saltalamacchia keeps hitting at anywhere near this level, the Tigers will have trouble keeping him out of the lineup.

Saltalamacchia will continue to get starter's at-bats this week with James McCann on the 15-day disabled list.
EDGE Analysis
Salty has performed admirably since McCann hit the DL with an sprained ankle. He is tied for the team lead in home runs (four) and has a team-high 11 RBI so far this season. However, Saltalamacchia is a risk over long starting stints and McCann will certainly resume the bulk of the duties when he returns. Start him in weekly leagues, but continue to monitor McCann's return carefully.

Saltalamacchia went 2-for-4 with a solo homer Sunday at the Astros.
EDGE Analysis
Saltalamacchia's fourth blast of the season got the Tigers on the scoreboard in the fifth inning of a game they'd go on to lose. He's now homered in back-to-back games and in three of his last four contests to bring his OPS up to 1.129.

Saltalamacchia went 2-for-5 with a two-run homer and a double Saturday at the Astros.
EDGE Analysis
Saltalamacchia's third bomb of the season gave the Tigers the lead in the sixth inning of a game they'd go on to win. He's now homered in two of his last three games, and each of his five hits this season have gone for extra bases.

Saltalamacchia is out of the lineup Thursday against the Pirates.
EDGE Analysis
Saltalamacchia caught all nine innings of Wednesday evening's contest, so it's not too surprising to see the veteran backstop rested for an afternoon game the following day. Bobby Wilson will take over behind the plate to catch Jordan Zimmermann.

Saltalamacchia was 1-for-4 with a grand slam in the 7-4 victory over the Pirates on Wednesday.
EDGE Analysis
The catcher came through with the bases loaded, two outs and the Tigers trailing by one in the sixth. Saltalamacchia has two home runs and eight RBI in just 14 at-bats this season. With James McCann on the disabled list for the foreseeable future, Salty is now Detroit's primary catcher.

Saltalamacchia, who is batting seventh and starting behind the plate Tuesday, figures to see increased playing time in the coming weeks with James McCann on the DL with an ankle injury.
EDGE Analysis
McCann was spotted on crutches Tuesday morning, although the initial diagnosis of his injury was a sprained ankle. Nevertheless, the Tigers will lean on Saltalamacchia as their primary catcher and Bobby Wilson as their backup in McCann's absence for at least the next few weeks.

Saltalamacchia homered, doubled and drove in four runs Wednesday to lead the Tigers to a 7-3 win over the Marlins in interleague play.
EDGE Analysis
Each hit delivered two runs. Salty came to Detroit in the offseason as a left-handed bat behind the plate and this start couldn't have been better. He's still a long-term drain on batting average, but he can deliver decent production over the season.

Saltalamacchia is in the lineup Wednesday, batting sixth as the Tigers' catcher.
EDGE Analysis
Saltalamacchia will get his first start of 2016 on Wednesday, replacing James McCann behind the dish against Jose Fernandez and the Marlins. As a switch hitter, Saltalamacchia will add a left-handed bat to a predominantly right-handed lineup Wednesday. Although he's in the lineup Wednesday, McCann is believed to be the Tigers' primary option behind the plate.
