Jerry Crasnick of ESPN.com reports that free agent Jamey Carroll is close to signing a multi-year contract in the next few days. Crasnick doesn't know who the deal is with but lists the Tigers, Rockies, Dodgers and Indians as Carroll's most fervent suitors. The the 37-year-old batted .290 with a .359 on-base percentage in 2011 and can play a variety of positions, though he's probably in a position where he can demand a starting job at shortstop or second base rather than serve in a utility role.

According to Lynn Henning of the Detroit News, the Tigers are on Jamey Carroll's list of desired landing spots. "The Tigers are a great organization," Carroll's agent, Jonathan Maurer, said this weekend. "Right now, we're considering all clubs." Carroll turns 38 years of age before the start of the 2012 season and hasn't homered since 2009, but he batted .290 with a .359 on-base percentage in 2011 and can play a variety of positions. He's also drawing early interest from the Rockies.

Troy Renck of the Denver Post reports that the Rockies are interested in free agent Jamey Carroll. Renck says Carroll is also interested in returning to Denver, where he played from 2006-07. He adds, though, that if the 37-year-old is looking for a deal similar to Omar Infante's (two years, $8 million), that might rule the Rockies out. Though he has no power whatsoever, Carroll is versatile and batted .291 and .290, respectively, over the last two seasons.

Buster Olney of ESPN.com was told by a source that a potential deal between the Dodgers and Braves involving Jamey Carroll is "not happening." The Braves have already acquired outfield Matt Diaz from the Pirates, but a "rival evaluator" says they are still working on more deals in advance of the waiver deadline. Olney floated Carroll as one possible trade target, but apparently that won't happen.

The Dodgers placed Jamey Carroll on waivers. Carroll is sure to get claimed, but waiver trades are especially difficult to pull off and the Dodgers aren't exactly flush with infield depth. The 37-year-old utilityman has registered a .291 batting average, .360 on-base percentage and 18 extra-base hits in 378 at-bats this season.

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that if the Dodgers trade Rafael Furcal to the Cardinals as expected, Jamey Carroll will remain in L.A. Dylan Hernandez of the Los Angeles Times reported Friday that talks between the Dodgers and Indians, who had been showing the most interest in Carroll, had died, so he had appeared unlikely to go anywhere even before the Furcal trade. With Furcal gone, shortstop will be opened up for Dee Gordon.

According to Dylan Hernandez of the Los Angeles Times, the Dodgers' conversations about dealing Jamey Carroll have died. The Indians are one of the teams that have shown interest in Carroll, but Paul Hoynes of the Cleveland Plain-Dealer reported earlier this evening that talks between the teams have "grown cold." While it appears that Carroll may very well stay put, Hernandez hears that there's still a "touch" of interest in shortstop Rafael Furcal.

FOXSports.com's Jon Paul Morosi reports that the Indians continue to show interest in Jamey Carroll. Of course, Carroll played with the Indians from 2008-2009 in a utility role, so there is some familiarity there. The Indians will likely face some stiff competition from the Brewers, who have a greater need in their infield at the moment.

According to Buster Olney of ESPN.com, the Brewers have reached out to the Dodgers about the availability of Jamey Carroll. It's a good match, as Carroll could play either shortstop or third base with the Brewers. The 37-year-old is batting .290/.360/.360 with 12 doubles, eight RBI and five stolen bases in 321 plate appearances with the Dodgers this season. He is in the final year of a two-year, $3.85 million contract.

Jamey Carroll went 3-for-4 with a run scored in Los Angeles' loss to the Mets on Wednesday. The multi-hit effort was Carroll's first in 17 games, and gets his average back above .300 to .303. Teams will likely be lining up to add Carroll as a super-sub ahead of this month's non-waiver trade deadline.
