Peavy (back) played catch Thursday for a second straight day, Alex Pavlovic of CSN Bay Area reports. Peavy's ability to play catch on back-to-back days would seem to suggest he's close to moving it in for a flat-ground session, but the Giants reportedly plan to "slow play" it with him. Ryan Vogelsong will slot into the rotation in his place for now. An MRI last weekend showed a muscle strain as well as continued issues with the SI joint in Peavy's lower back.

Peavy underwent an MRI on Saturday, which revealed a muscle strain and continued issues with the SI joint in his lower back, Alex Pavlovic of CSN Bay Area reports. The back issues forced Peavy onto the DL on Saturday, but it sounds like he will avoid surgery, with rest and rehab prescribed for now. Ryan Vogelsong and Yusmeiro Petit each tossed two innings in relief of Peavy on Friday, but Vogelsong seems like the most logical choice to fill Peavy's spot in the rotation.

Peavy (back) was placed on the 15-day DL on Saturday, Alex Pavlovic of CSN Bay Area reports. Peavy was scratched from his first scheduled start of the year due to back stiffness and that stiffness returned Friday, forcing the right-hander off the mound after just 3.2 innings. The Giants have not provided a timetable for Peavy's return, but May 2 would be the earliest possible date for his activation. Catcher Andrew Susac was recalled to take his spot on the roster.

Peavy (back) was knocked out of Friday's game after just 3.2 innings, surrendering four runs on eight hits while walking one and striking out two in the loss to Arizona. Peavy has been dealing with back stiffness early in the year and it has been affecting his performance on the field. While we expect Peavy to be a better pitcher when healthy, it is best to let him work out his early-season struggles on the waiver wire.

Peavy (back) struck out five and walked three while giving up four runs on four hits over four innings in a loss to the Padres on Sunday. It was a rough outing for Peavy, who missed his first scheduled start of the season due to back soreness. Peavy needed 87 pitches to record 12 outs Sunday, and a grand slam from former teammate Wil Nieves in the fourth inning ultimately chased him from the start. He's scheduled to make his next start Friday against the D-backs at AT&T Park.

Manager Bruce Bochy is hopeful that Peavy (back) will be able to start Sunday, Hank Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. It looked Tuesday like Peavy was headed to the disabled list, but he reported feeling much better Wednesday, and it now appears that he could still make his first start of the season this weekend. The Giants are still listing Sunday's starter as "TBD," but expect an update on their plans after Peavy tests things out again in the next couple days.

Peavy (back) was feeling much better and should avoid being placed on the DL on Wednesday, the San Francisco Chronicle's Henry Schulman reports. He was throwing at full speed for at least 15 minutes prior to Wednesday's game, and the real test could come with how his back feels Thursday. Trainers popped a joint in his back into place prior to him throwing the bullpen session, which lends hope to the idea of him making his scheduled start Sunday. Owners will want to monitor his status closely in the coming days.

Peavy felt some soreness in his injured back during Tuesday's bullpen session and he's likely headed to the DL, MLB.com reports. Initial reports were that the session went fine, but sounds like he had some soreness later. The Giants haven't officially ruled him out from starting Saturday and will make a DL decision Wednesday, but it sounds like he'll miss at least another start.

Peavy (back) completed a bullpen session Thursday, CSNBayArea.com reports. With Peavy making it through the session without issue, he is on track to make his 2015 debut Sunday against San Diego, likely opposite Tyson Ross. Peavy's back locked up last week, resulting in his scratch from his scheduled outing Tuesday, but he said Thursday he's been responding to treatment.

Peavy is penciled in to start against the Padres on Sunday, Andrew Baggarly of the Mercury News reports. A back issue will keep Peavy from making his debut Tuesday against Arizona, but he said he was hoping to make his next start and the Giants seem to think he will. Peavy revealed that his back first locked up last week, but he has been responding positively to treatment. Ryan Vogelsong is starting in Peavy's place Tuesday.
