Jack Hannahan has been shut down from his throwing program due to renewed discomfort in his shoulder. Hannahan underwent shoulder surgery over the winter and hasn't appeared in a game this season for the Reds. The 34-year-old infielder remains out indefinitely.

Jack Hannahan (shoulder) played long-toss from 110 feet Monday. "It's been feeling good," said Hannahan. "A lot better this go-around than the last go-around. I'm up to two sessions at 110 feet and it's feeling pretty good." Hannahan added that he needs "to be consistent at 120 [feet] and feeling good and then we'll throw some balls across the diamond." He'll be allowed to hit sometime after that before eventually going out on a rehab assignment.

Reds placed INF Jack Hannahan on the 60-day disabled list with a right shoulder injury. Hannahan is still working his way back from offseason shoulder surgery and didn't do any throwing during Cactus League games. He'll be eligible to return in late May.

Jack Hannahan (shoulder) has yet to throw from third to first base during Cactus League games. "He's done it in practice," Reds manager Bryan Price said. "I don't want to say tentative, but it's certainly not at game speed. It might be a day on, a day off or two days on, a day off. He's not throwing every day." Working his way back from offseason shoulder surgery, Hannahan will begin the season in extended spring training. There's no timetable for when he'll be activated from the DL.

Reds manager Bryan Price indicated Saturday that Jack Hannahan (shoulder) remains questionable to be ready for Opening Day. The veteran infielder underwent offseason shoulder surgery, and is currently throwing every other day from a distance of 90 feet. Price noted that if Hannahan isn't ready to go, the team does have other options who could fill his bench spot until he's fully healed.

Jack Hannahan has yet to play in any Cactus League games because he's rehabbing from offseason shoulder surgery. The operation hadn't been announced until now. Hannahan is still rehabbing the injury and it's not clear at this point when he'll be ready to play in games or if his availability for Opening Day is in question.

Jack Hannahan grounded out as a pinch-hitter in Monday's victory against the Mets. The Minnesota native is miscast as a pinch-hitter and is no threat to Todd Frazier's job, despite the latter's struggles. Hannahan is known for his glove, not his stick, but Cincinnati likely hoped for more than a .222/.317/.278 slash line when they inked him to a two-year, $4 million contract over the offseason.

Reds signed INF Jack Hannahan to a two-year contract. It was originally reported as a one-year deal, but the Reds wound up having to go a little longer. Hannahan will serve as Todd Frazier's primary backup at third base in 2013 while also providing depth all around the Cincinnati infield. The 32-year-old hit .244/.312/.341 in 105 games this past summer for the Indians.
