Diamondbacks placed RHP J.J. Putz on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to May 4, with right forearm tightness. It's not clear when Putz began dealing with the ailment, but it could partly explain why he allowed five runs over his last four appearances. There's no timeable for the veteran reliever's return.

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that the Diamondbacks are looking to trade J.J. Putz following the addition of Addison Reed. Putz is owed $7 million in 2014, which is more than the D'Backs want to pay for a setup man. Rosenthal thinks a deal to the Yankees for Ichiro Suzuki or to the Brewers for Yovani Gallardo would make some sense (though they'd have to give up more than Putz to get the latter). Putz dealt with elbow issues and was stripped of the closer role in 2013 but pitched well overall, posting a 2.36 ERA with 38 strikeouts across 34 1/3 innings.

J.J. Putz (elbow) could be activated early this week. Putz threw 26 pitches in a simulated game Saturday with no issues. "I'm optimistic he's close to coming back," Diamondbacks manager Kirk Gibson said. With Brad Ziegler settling into the closer role, Putz will return as a setup man.

J.J. Putz (finger) is expected to throw a simulated game on Saturday. Putz threw a side session on Thursday without any issues. D'Backs manager Kirk Gibson is holding out hope that his veteran closer can return to the bullpen before the end of the 2013 campaign.

J.J. Putz (finger) is expected to be activated from the disabled list when first eligible on September 8. Putz is dealing with a dislocated and lacerated finger, but he'll be allowed to begin throwing again in 4-5 days. "I think it's just a matter of the pain tolerance," he said. "I guess they said when you have a dislocation and an open wound, infection is a big thing. They had to stick something into the wound and open it up to disinfect it. It's a matter of that healing. Once the pain is gone, I can throw."

Diamondbacks placed RHP J.J. Putz on the 15-day disabled list with a dislocated right finger. Putz suffered the injury while trying to barehand a ground ball in Friday's game. Heath Bell and Joe Thatcher will be used in setup roles in his absence. The Diamondbacks have recalled Chaz Roe to replace Putz on the active roster.

J.J. Putz is heading to the disabled list with a dislocated finger that he suffered while trying to barehand a ground ball in Friday's game. With Putz operating in a setup role in front of closer Brad Ziegler, his loss shouldn't have a major impact in most fantasy leagues. Putz owns a 2.43 ERA and 32/15 K/BB ratio in just 29 2/3 innings on the season.

J.J. Putz earned his sixth save by tossing a scoreless 16th inning Sunday against the Pirates. Brad Ziegler, Arizona's closer, threw two scoreless innings in front of Putz to improve to 7-1. Putz has earned six holds since Arizona stripped him of the closing job in early July, making him a fantasy factor in formats that use the stat. He's posted a solid 2.54 ERA and has only allowed one run since July 2.

J.J. Putz pitched a perfect inning Tuesday in his first appearance in four days. Putz has pitched 2 1/3 perfect innings since giving up a run and losing his closer's role in his second appearance back from the DL on July 1. Meanwhile, Heath Bell has gone unused for five days since giving up a homer and blowing a save on July 4. If Putz remains successful, he could be put back into the closer's role after the break.
