Washington manager Dave Martinez called Kendrick day-to-day after the veteran went unused Wednesday in the team's 4-0 win over the Blue Jays in 10 innings, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Kendrick was scratched from the lineup ahead of the contest with upper-back stiffness, but the club relayed that he was available to pinch hit. Even though there were situations that cropped up during the game that seemed ideal for a contact-oriented player like Kendrick, he never left the bench. With MLB postponing this weekend's series with the Marlins, the Nationals will have four off days in a row after Thursday, so Martinez could be tempted to hold Kendrick out again for the series finale to afford the 37-year-old ample recovery time.

Kendrick was scratched from Wednesday's lineup against the Blue Jays with upper-back stiffness, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Kendrick is reportedly available to pinch hit, so it doesn't sound like the issue is anything overly serious. Asdrubal Cabrera is working as the DH in place of Kendrick, with Carter Kieboom getting the nod at third base.

Kendrick went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts in Tuesday's loss to the Blue Jays.
EDGE Analysis
The 37-year-old has started every game to begin the season, swapping between first base and designated hitter with Eric Thames, but Kendrick has only a .125 batting average and one RBI to show for it. The Nats offense as a whole is in something of a funk early on, but the impending return of Juan Soto (illness) could jump-start the entire lineup, Kendrick included.

Kendrick launched a two-run home run off Alex Cobb in the fourth inning and added an RBI double in the seventh during Monday's exhibition game against the Orioles.
EDGE Analysis
The veteran didn't seem to need much time to shake off any rust that had accumulated during the break, despite his late start to summer camp. Kendrick figures to be the Nats' primary designated hitter in 2020 after posting a career-high .967 OPS last year and delivering plenty of postseason heroics.

Kendrick (undisclosed) reported to Nationals camp Thursday, Jesse Dougherty of The Washington Post reports.
EDGE Analysis
Kendrick was unable to work with the team during the start of camp, but he was present for Thursday's workouts for the first time this summer. With just one week remaining until Opening Day, it remains to be seen whether Kendrick will be in shape to play to begin the regular season. The 37-year-old is expected to serve as the Nationals' primary designated hitter this year.

Kendrick (undisclosed) has yet to be cleared for workouts, Jessica Camerato of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
It's unknown whether Kendrick had a positive COVID-19 test or came into contact with someone who tested positive, but either way the veteran hasn't been able to participate in summer camp. Kendrick was expected to be the Nats' primary designated hitter this season, but if he isn't ready for Opening Day, manager Dave Martinez may have to get creative to fill the spot.

Kendrick could be the Nationals' primary designated hitter this season, Jessica Camerato of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
The team does have other options, including Ryan Zimmerman, but Kendrick's heroics in the role during the World Series give him a definite leg up. The 37-year-old is coming off a season in which he posted a career-high .967 OPS over 370 plate appearances, and the opportunity for regular playing time as opposed to a utility role gives a boost to his fantasy value.

Kendrick has gone 3-for-10 with a walk and an RBI through his first five Grapefruit League games entering play Tuesday.
EDGE Analysis
The Nationals have used Kendrick at designated hitter, first base and second base this spring, which essentially aligns with what manager Dave Martinez had laid out for the veteran earlier this spring. Per Jessica Camerato of MLB.com, Martinez doesn't plan to expose Kendrick to third base until late in spring training, as the Nationals plan to have prospect Carter Kieboom and Asdrubal Cabrera compete for the top job at that position throughout camp. Kendrick's age and injury history means the Nationals won't ask him to be an everyday player on the right side of the infield, but his elite contact skills should make him a fixture in the lineup versus lefties and allow him to see occasional work against righties, too. The 36-year-old was instrumental in the Nationals' run to the World Series last season, slashing .344/.395/.572 with 17 home runs in 370 plate appearances.

Kendrick will remain with the Nationals on a one-year, $6.25 million deal, Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports.
EDGE Analysis
The deal also includes a mutual option for 2021, per Jamal Collier of MLB.com. The 36-year-old enjoyed a renaissance for the World Series winners last season, hitting .344/.395/.572 (good for a career-high 146 wRC+) over 370 plate appearances. Statcast doesn't think he overachieved at all, giving him a .622 expected slugging percentage on the back of an excellent 48.3 percent hard-hit rate. His fantasy value in 2020 will depend in large part on how many opportunities he gets, but he seems to be a good bet to be quite productive when available.

Kendrick is not in the lineup for Game 3 of the World Series against the Astros on Friday.
EDGE Analysis
Kendrick was named the NLCS MVP and started each of the first two games of the World Series when Washington had the DH available in an AL park, going 2-for-9 with an RBI. Asdrubal Cabrera gets the nod at second base in his place.
