Manager Bob Melvin said that Alvarez (shoulder) looked good in his 25-pitch bullpen session Tuesday, Jane Lee of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
This is an excellent development for the right-hander, as this opens the door for him to face live hitters in the near future. As long as he continues to progress steadily while looking and feeling good, there's a good chance that he could get into the Oakland rotation by sometime in May.

Alvarez (shoulder) will throw a full bullpen session on Tuesday, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
EDGE Analysis
Alvarez threw off a mound a week ago for the first time since July and has continued progressing to a return. If all goes well during the bullpen session, the next steps to watch for will be when he sees live hitters, then game action. The initial timetable for the 25-year-old was said to be June, but it's looking more and more possible he could make his return to the rotation sometime in the early months of the season.

Alvarez threw from a mound Monday for the first time since undergoing shoulder surgery last July, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
EDGE Analysis
Alvarez will miss the first few weeks of the regular season while he completes his recovery, but Monday's activity represents a significant step in the process. Once Alvarez is 100 percent healthy and has his stamina back, he will almost certainly jump into Oakland's starting rotation.

Alvarez (shoulder) threw at a distance of 135 feet Friday and expects to resume mound work in March, the San Francisco Chronicle reports. "If you watch him play catch, it looks like there's nothing wrong with him," manager Bob Melvin said. "That was a great pickup, he's a guy who's pitched one or two on staffs before. We want to make sure he's healthy but we're really excited about having him."
EDGE Analysis
The team is said to be tentatively looking to June for Alvarez's return, but the right-hander believes he could start pitching in minor league games in April, meaning a May return in the majors is not out of the question. After a 2015 season lost almost entirely to a shoulder injury, and following surgery on the shoulder in late July, the Marlins declined to tender Alvarez a contract for the 2016 season.

Alvarez agreed to a one-year, $4.25 million contract with the A's on Friday, Chris Cotillo of SB Nation reports. He can earn an additional $1.6 million if he hits his incentives for games started.
EDGE Analysis
It's a one-year deal but the A's can control Alvarez, who was non-tendered by the Marlins, through 2017 if they are willing to go to arbitration with him next winter. Shoulder troubles plagued the right-hander's final season with Miami, limiting him to just 22.1 innings with the big club, and surgery was ultimately deemed necessary to repair a torn right labrum. His rehab is expected to push into the first month of the regular season, but Alvarez should slot into the rotation immediately once healthy.

The Marlins declined to tender Alvarez (shoulder) a contract for 2016, Jeff Passan of Yahoo! Sports reports.
EDGE Analysis
This is a bit surprising considering the Marlins' lack of quality starting pitching, but Alvarez battled shoulder issues throughout 2015, and ultimately needed surgery to repair a torn right labrum in late July. He was expected to resume throwing around Dec. 1, but the right-hander appears doubtful for Opening Day, and apparently the Marlins decided the money would be better spent elsewhere.

Alvarez (shoulder) will resume throwing Dec. 1, Jeff Passan of Yahoo! Sports reports.
EDGE Analysis
Alvarez has made good progress in his recovery from surgery to repair a torn labrum, and he is nearly ready to resume throwing. It remains unlikely that Alvarez will be ready for Opening Day, but barring any setbacks, he is on track to pitch in games at some point in April.

Alvarez (shoulder) was moved to the 60-day DL on Tuesday, Joe Frisaro of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
The Marlins are hoping Alvarez will be ready for spring training after undergoing shoulder surgery in July, but at this point he's without a firm timetable. Tuesday's move simply removes Alvarez from the 40-man roster.

Miami Marlins starting pitcher Henderson Alvarez was diagnosed with a tear in his right shoulder Tuesday, and he will undergo season-ending arthroscopic surgery, according to MLB.com. Alvarez suffered a setback as he was rehabbing from a previous injury and a new evaluation revealed the tear. The 25-year-old won 12 games and posted a 2.65 ERA last season en route to an All-Star selection, but he has been limited to just four starts this season because of shoulder problems. "I think he's a definite out-for-the-season candidate now," manager Dan Jennings said. "To be determined. I think depending upon the actual severity of the tear and just the timetable, we'll know more after the procedure's complete. Up until game time we've had our last three All-Stars (Alvarez, Giancarlo Stanton and Dee Gordon) (need) to be shut down. It's a little frustrating when you've got quality, you don't want to see anyone injured, but certainly you don't want to see your guys get shut down for an extended period of time."

Miami Marlins starting pitcher Henderson Alvarez will visit Dr. James Andrews this week regarding his injured shoulder, according to MLB.com. Alvarez, who has not pitched in the major leagues since late May, suffered a setback in his rehab stint and could be headed for surgery depending on what his appointment reveals.
