Guillermo Quiroz has elected free agency. Quiroz was outrighted off the Red Sox' 40-man roster earlier this month and has decided to look for a job elsewhere. He's batted just .206/.265/.272 over parts of eight big league seasons.

Red Sox designated C Guillermo Quiroz for assignment. He was cleared as the Red Sox made room for Rubby De La Rosa and Jerry Sands on the 40-man roster. Quiroz was with the big club in September, but only appeared in two games. He has a .206/.265/.272 batting line over in 282 plate appearances in the majors.

Look for him to serve as catching depth in the minors.
