Soto is not in the Angels' Opening Day lineup, Eric Kay reports.
EDGE Analysis
This doesn't come as much of a surprise as Carlos Perez has been deemed the starting catcher. However, Soto will see starts over the course of the season and could earn more playing time if he can find his stroke offensively, but his fantasy value will remain minimal.

Soto has hit three home runs and drawn six walks in just 12 games during Cactus League play.
EDGE Analysis
Soto missed some time behind the plate this spring because of arm fatigue, but the injury was never expected to cost him significant time. Soto should see an increase in playing time behind Carlos Perez this season, but the 53 games he started for the White Sox last year was his highest total since 2012, so it seems unrealistic to expect that he will play enough to be a viable option in standard mixed leagues.

Soto was scratched from Tuesday's game, Alden Gonzalez of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
It's not yet clear if Soto suffered an injury or is just being given the day off, but more information surrounding the scratch should be released soon.

Soto is part of an open competition for the Angels' starting catcher job this spring, the Orange County Register reports.
EDGE Analysis
Realistically, Soto will catch 50-60 games this season, leaving Perez to eclipse 100 games behind the dish in 2016. Perez had a reverse platoon split last season, hitting .274/.319/.395 (.713 OPS) against right-handed pitching while hitting .186/.247/.214 against southpaws. Even with the expected increase in playing time, Perez should be considered mostly in deep two-catcher leagues in 2016, while Soto will likely be limited exclusively to deep AL-only use.

Soto signed a one-year deal with the Angels on Tuesday.
EDGE Analysis
The Angels were never expected to make a big splash at catcher this offseason, in part because there were no big names available in free agency and they lacked the prospects to acquire one in a trade. Soto slashed .219/.301/.406 with nine home runs and a 30 percent K-rate in 210 plate appearances with the White Sox last season. He will split time with Carlos Perez, and should be seen as a fringe option in two-catcher formats and AL-only leagues.

Soto filed for free agency Monday, the Chicago Tribune reports.
EDGE Analysis
Soto remained healthy for all of 2015, which is something he had not accomplished in recent years. However, he did little at the plate to distinguish himself from starter Tyler Flowers. He should be in the market for a part-time role for 2016.

Soto is back in the starting lineup, batting ninth while playing behind the plate, according to Colleen Kane of the Chicago Tribune.
EDGE Analysis
Soto is having a rough September, going 3-for-26 at the plate, which has dropped his seasno average to .227. Neither he nor Tyler Flowers has done much to separate themselves from the other and will continue to split time down the stretch.

Soto hit a solo home run in the White Sox's loss to the Pirates on Thursday. The home run tied the game at two, but the Pirates quickly re-gained the lead. Notably, this was Soto's third consecutive start behind the dish, marking the first time he has made three straight starts since the first week of May. The White Sox have gotten little from either of their catchers this season, so Soto may get some additional playing time over Tyler Flowers so the team can see if he can provide any greater level of consistency.

Soto delivered a game-winning double in extra innings after coming off the bench earlier in the game. Starting catcher Tyler Flowers was used at first base after Jose Abreu left with a finger ailment, forcing Soto into action. Flowers should not be called into the infield often, so Soto should remain on the bench. Six of Soto's 14 hits this season have gone for extra bases, but he has struggled to make contact otherwise.

Soto got a rare start and went 2-for-4 with a two-run double in a 3-2 win over the Twins on Friday. Soto last played Monday, as he's been seeing little time behind Tyler Flowers. However, the strong effort may help Soto gain a bit more playing time, as Flowers has struggled offensively for the majority of the season. Of course, so has Soto.
