Kontos has made the Opening Day roster for the Giants, CSN Bay Area reports. Despite a 4.50 ERA this spring, the Giants opted to add Kontos to their 25-man roster. He spent the majority of the 2014 season with Triple-A Fresno, but posted a solid 2.78 ERA over 32.1 innings in the majors. Kontos features a low-90s fastball and a hard-biting slider. He will be used as a middle reliever this season.

Kontos was recalled from Triple-A Fresno on Monday, MLB.com reports. Kontos was with the Giants for only one day last week as the 26th man in their doubleheader with the Cubs, but it looks like he might stick with the big club for the rest of the season following Monday's promotion. The right-hander has posted a 3.00 ERA and 1.19 WHIP over 21 innings (14 appearances) with the Giants out of the bullpen this season.
