Liriano allowed three runs (one earned) on three hits without retiring a batter in Monday's 9-7 loss to the Brewers.
EDGE Analysis
Second baseman Adam Frazier's error put the leadoff man on before three straight singles doomed Liriano's night. The lefty has allowed seven runs in 2.2 innings over his last four outings -- with just two of those runs earned -- due to a porous defense. Liriano has made a smooth transition from starter to reliever in 2019, registering a 3.31 ERA in 51.2 innings. A 48:26 K:BB includes an 11.7 walk percentage -- above his career rate of 10.5 percent -- but batters have had difficulty squaring up his 92.8 mph fastball. He's also mixing in an effective changeup more than ever, throwing it a career-high 26.9 percent of the time. While Liriano is not in the mix for saves, he has recorded eight holds.

Pitching exclusively out of the bullpen, Liriano has yet to allow an earned run in 10.1 innings through his first 11 appearances of 2019.
EDGE Analysis
After issuing a pair of walks and a wild pitch to three of the first four batters he faced, Liriano has crafted a 14:4 K:BB. The 34-year-old has thrown in three of the last four games, becoming one of the team's few reliable bullpen options in April. His walk rate (8.9 percent) is the lowest since 2010. While he's not pitching enough to help many fantasy owners, there remains a chance he could spot-start if and when injuries strike Pittsburgh's rotation.

Liriano's contract was purchased Thursday, Bill Brink of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
EDGE Analysis
This is a formality, as it was reported last week that Liriano had made the team. He will work in mid-leverage situations, getting plenty of work against left-handed hitters.

Despite an inconsistent spring, Liriano will make the team's Opening Day roster, John Perrotto of DK Pittsburgh Sports reports.
EDGE Analysis
With nine walks in 9.1 Grapefruit League innings, Liriano has struggled with his control. Even so, the Pirates will give the 35-year-old a chance to pitch out of the bullpen. Liriano has compiled a 5.03 ERA in 230.2 innings since 2017 and isn't expected to pitch in high leverage situations.

The Pirates are expected to inform Liriano whether he has made the Opening Day roster Saturday, DK Pittsburgh Sports reports.
EDGE Analysis
He's pitched progressively worse throughout the spring, allowing five runs with an 8:9 K:BB in 9.1innings. If Liriano doesn't make the team, the Pirates will likely release him because they would have to pay him a $100,000 bonus if they sent him to Triple-A. Rule 5 pick Nick Burdi has outpitched Liriano and may take the final bullpen spot.

Liriano walked all four batters he faced against the Yankees on Sunday.
EDGE Analysis
The left-hander struggled with a 4.9 BB/9 in 133.2 innings for Detroit last season. The Pirates will likely give Liriano a longer leash than other teams, given his past success with the organization, but he'll need to throw strikes in his next couple outings.

Liriano pitched a scoreless fourth inning Wednesday against the Blue Jays.
EDGE Analysis
Pittsburgh signed the 35-year-old to serve as a reliever earlier in February. Liriano started in 26 of his 27 appearances with Detroit last season, limiting batters to a .221/.316/.319 slash line the first time through the order. Opponents hit .270/.380/.494 the second time around, however. If the team's other fifth starter options fail, it wouldn't be surprising to see Liriano get another chance in the rotation, considering his track record of success with the Bucs.

Liriano signed with the Pirates on Monday, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
The 35-year-old returns to the place where he had the best stretch of his career, as he posted a 3.26 ERA in Pittsburgh from 2013 to 2015. In the three years since then, his ERA has sat at 4.89, and given his age, it wouldn't be a surprise to see him continue to slip. The rebuilding Pirates will hope he has something left in the tank, at least in a relief role.

Liriano exited Thursday's game against the Twins due to lower back tightness.
EDGE Analysis
This is good news for Liriano, who will become a free agent in the offseason. The injury won't prevent him from missing any time during the 2019 campaign.

Liriano left Thursday's game against the Twins with an undisclosed injury, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.
EDGE Analysis
The team trainer came out to examine Liriano after he walked two consecutive batters, and the decision was made to remove the 34-year-old lefty from the ballgame. More news on the severity of Liriano's injury should emerge following further evaluation. He was making his final start of the 2018 season, so he's done pitching for the year regardless of the extent of the issue.
