Sogard did not hit much during the exhibition season, but he still managed to post a .348 OBP. He is set to open the season in a platoon at third base with Jedd Gyorko, so he will not be in the lineup every day. However, thanks to his on-base skills (.352 over the last three seasons) he could head the batting order -- something he did regularly both this spring and last season -- when he starts.

Sogard appears to be destined for a platoon with Jedd Gyorko at third base this season, Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

EDGE Analysis

As a left-handed hitter, Sogard would see the majority of starts at the position. He could also see time in the middle infield or corner outfield spots if the Brewers want to get both Sogard and Gyorko into the lineup. If both players fail to impress, Ryon Healy or Brock Holt could enter the conversation at the hot corner.

Sogard signed a one-year, $4.5 million contract with the Brewers which includes a club option for a second season Wednesday, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports.

EDGE Analysis

The 33-year-old returns to the club where he spent the 2017 and 2018 campaigns. Sogard's two best seasons have come in 2017 and 2019, where he hit .273/.393/.378 and .290/.353/.457, respectively. It's hard to be fully confident in him heading into 2020, however, as those seasons bookended a 2018 season in which he hit just .134/.241/.165 in limited action. Keston Hiura appears to have the everyday job at Sogard's primary position (second base) locked up, but the veteran should be able to play fairly frequently in a utility role, as he can play all around the infield as well as both corner outfield spots.
