Sogard is expected to make the Cubs' Opening Day roster after Nico Hoerner was optioned to Triple-A Iowa on Friday, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Sogard was a non-roster invitee in camp and slashed .360/.448/.520 with one home run and four RBI across 10 Cactus League games. Hoerner also performed well in camp and could return to the majors relatively early in the season, but Sogard will serve as the primary backup behind David Bote at second base to begin the year.

The Cubs could choose to carry 13 position players instead of 12 to start the year, which might help Sogard make the Opening Day roster, Gordon Wittenmyer of NBC Sports Chicago reports.
EDGE Analysis
Earlier this spring, it seemed the organization was leaning toward having 12 position players and 14 pitchers. However, team president Jed Hoyer said recently that the Cubs could instead go with an even 13-13 split, which could help both Sogard and Nico Hoerner make the roster. If they do end up carrying the extra pitcher, it seems unlikely that both Sogard and Hoerner would stick around with David Bote also in the mix.

Sogard signed a minor-league contract with the Cubs on Wednesday, Jesse Rogers of ESPN.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Sogard's contract option was declined by the Brewers in October, but he'll join the Cubs on a minor-league agreement now that spring training is underway. He'll presumably serve as a non-roster invitee and compete for a spot on the major-league roster after slashing .209/.281/.278 with 10 RBI over 43 games with Milwaukee last year.

The Brewers declined Sogard's $4.5 million club option for 2021 on Friday.
EDGE Analysis
The veteran infielder began the season in a regular role but fell out of favor and finished with a .209/.281/.278 slash line in 43 games, so it's no surprise to see Milwaukee electing to pay the $500,000 buyout. Sogard had an .810 OPS during 2019 but like previous years he was unable to string together productive offensive seasons.

Sogard isn't starting Game 2 of the NL Wild Card Series against the Dodgers on Thursday.
EDGE Analysis
Sogard went 0-for-3 with one walk in Wednesday's Game 1, but he'll take a seat Thursday against southpaw Clayton Kershaw. Sogard should be available off the bench as the Brewers attempt to force a decisive Game 3, but Luis Urias will draw the start at third base in the second game of the series.

Sogard went 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles and an RBI in Tuesday's 3-2 win over the Reds.
EDGE Analysis
After having not started in any of the Brewers' past nine games, Sogard was a surprising choice to enter the lineup Tuesday in a crucial contest that carried important playoff implications for both teams. Despite the lack of recent work, Sogard was able to come up clutch, delivering two of the Brewers' four extra-base hits on the night. With fellow infielders Keston Hiura and Luis Urias both struggling at the dish, Sogard could earn some more starts down the stretch as manager Craig Counsell looks to put his best lineup out there.

Sogard is out of the lineup for the first game of Monday's doubleheader with the Cardinals.
EDGE Analysis
The lefty-hitting Sogard will unsurprisingly take a seat with southpaw Kwang Hyun Kim twirling for the Cardinals in Game 1, but the infielder's playing time against right-handed pitching has been trending down as well. Before entering the lineup for Sunday's 12-0 loss to the Cubs, Sogard hadn't started in any of the Brewers' previous seven games. Luis Urias has clearly supplanted Sogard as the team's everyday third baseman at this point.

Sogard is not in the lineup Sunday against the Pirates.
EDGE Analysis
Sogard delivered a walkoff two-run homer Saturday, but he'll take a seat Sunday with lefty Steven Brault starting for the Pirates. Luis Urias shifts to third base and Keston Hiura starts at second with Ryan Braun serving as the designated hitter.

Sogard went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in a victory over the Pirates on Saturday.
EDGE Analysis
Sogard stepped up to the plate against Richard Rodriguez with a runner aboard in the bottom of the ninth and ended the game with a long ball to right field. The walkoff was a rare highlight in a down season for the 34-year-old, who is slashing a paltry .179/.289/.244 through 90 plate appearances.

Sogard is not in the lineup Sunday at Pittsburgh.
EDGE Analysis
The 34-year-old sat against lefty Derek Holland on Saturday, and he remains out of the lineup Sunday despite righty JT Brubaker taking the mound. Sogard is 5-for-35 over his past 10 games. Luis Urias will start at the hot corner Sunday for the Brewers.
