Jeter's .533 OPS in August is his lowest in any month this season, but there's no doubt the Yankees will continue to give the future Hall of Famer regular time over the final weeks of the season.

Jeter singled Saturday against the Indians to pass Honus Wagner for sixth on the all-time hits list with 3,431. Passing Wagner also means Jeter has more hits than any shortstop in baseball history. Jeter, who has 115 hits this season, is 84 behind Tris Speaker for fifth place, which is probably out of reach.

Jeter is out of the Yankees' lineup Thursday against the Tigers, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports. This looks like nothing more than a routine day off for the 40-year-old Jeter, with an early afternoon game on tap following a night game. Deadline acquisition Stephen Drew will move over to shortstop in his absence, with Brendon Ryan manning the keystone against right-hander Rick Porcello. Jeter has hit safely in 11 of his last 12 games, posting a .347 average over that span.
