Valencia was held out of the lineup Sunday against the Blue Jays due to an illness, Steve Melewski of MASN Sports reports.
EDGE Analysis
Orioles manager Buck Showalter said prior to the start of the contest that Valencia could be sent back to the team hotel to recuperate from the illness, so it's uncertain if he'll be available off the bench Sunday to pinch hit. Unless his condition takes a turn for the worse overnight, Valencia is expected to rejoin the Baltimore lineup Monday against the Red Sox and should be on tap for a full slate of starts during the upcoming week. Valencia has hit .348 over his last 26 games, making him one of the more productive batters in a porous Orioles attack.

Valencia is out of the lineup Sunday against the Blue Jays, Eduardo A. Encina of The Baltimore Sun reports.
EDGE Analysis
Valencia will head to the bench for the first time in seven games as manager Buck Showalter clears a spot at the hot corner for leadoff man Jace Peterson in the series finale. Though Valencia has historically done his best work as a short-side platoon bat, he has been a surprisingly strong performer against right-handers this season, hitting .313/.348/.516 across 69 plate appearances. Despite dropping out of the lineup Sunday, Valencia still appears locked in for something close to a full-time role with the Orioles while he continues to impress at the plate.

Valencia was reinstated from the paternity list Friday.
EDGE Analysis
Donnie Hart was optioned down in a corresponding roster move. Valencia will not immediately return to the starting lineup -- Jace Peterson is getting the nod at third base once again -- but it seems likely that Valencia will continue to play semi-regularly for the time being given his respectable .279/.339/.471 batting line.

EDGE Analysis
It's unclear what forced Valencia's removal from the lineup at this point, but Joey Rickard joined the starting nine as a result, with Jace Peterson sliding to third base. Consider the veteran day-to-day for now.

Valencia went 4-for-5 with a solo home run and had three runs and four RBI in the Orioles' 17-1 blowout of Tampa Bay on Sunday.
EDGE Analysis
The 33-year-old raised his average all the way from .224 to .264 with this four-hit performance and he now has six home runs and 14 RBI on the season. He hadn't been getting enough regular appearances to make a sustained fantasy impact to this point but his .833 OPS over his 72 at-bats is solid and with Tim Beckham on the disabled list and Pedro Alvarez struggling and also dealing with a recent hamstring injury, Valencia should continue to get penciled into the lineup regularly for the time being.

Valencia is out of the lineup Sunday against the Athletics, Jon Meoli of The Baltimore Sun reports.
EDGE Analysis
After Tim Beckham was shut down April 24 when it was determined he would require groin surgery, Valencia received the first chance to serve as the Orioles' everyday third baseman, starting at the position in the first four games Beckham was out of the lineup. It appears Valencia has since fallen into a platoon at the hot corner with Pedro Alvarez, whose left-handedness has earned him the larger share of the starts. Though he'll be on the bench again Sunday, Valencia may not have to wait long before earning more consistent work, as Pedro Alvarez has opened May with a 1-for-16 showing at the plate.
