Otero struck out one in 1.1 scoreless innings of work Tuesday against Minnesota.
EDGE Analysis
Otero has been lights out to begin the season, allowing no runs and just one hit in 5.1 innings of relief. The 31-year-old also has five strikeouts to go along with a 0.38 WHIP. Despite the hot start, Otero is far down the line from assuming the closer role. Expect the veteran to primarily serve as a middle-reliever for Cleveland.

Otero landed a spot as the seventh pitcher in the Cleveland bullpen to open the season, the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
EDGE Analysis
Otero made the team on the strength of a solid spring but he won't see too many high-leverage situations out of the Cleveland bullpen.

Otero was acquired by the Indians on Friday for cash considerations, Ryan Lewis of the Akron Beacon Journal reports.
EDGE Analysis
Otero had been DFA'd by Philadelphia within the last week, but the Phillies front office found a trade partner in the Indians on Friday. The veteran reliever struggled to a 6.75 ERA last season, but his career mark of 3.46 indicates that his 2015 campaign could have been an aberration.

Otero was designated for assignment Saturday, Stephen Gross of The Morning Call reports.
EDGE Analysis
The Phillies acquired five players in a trade with the Astros on Saturday, and after the deal was made official, Otero was DFA'd to clear room on the 40-man roster for Vincent Velasquez. Otero had a 6.75 ERA over 46.2 innings last season as a member of the Athletics and will now be placed on waivers.

Otero was claimed off waivers by the Phillies on Tuesday, reports John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle.
EDGE Analysis
After very successful campaigns with the A's in 2013 and 2014 (ERA's of 1.38 and 2.28 respectively), Otero struggled mightily in 2015 with an ERA of 6.75 in 46.2 innings. After allowing only 8.3 hits per nine innings in 2014, that number jumped all the way to 12.3 in 2015 as he struggled to get outs. Otero figures to have a chance to stick with the Phillies bullpen in 2016 with hopes for a bounce back to his 2013 and 2014 form.

Otero was recalled from Triple-A Nashville on Tuesday.
EDGE Analysis
One of the A's more reliable (healthy) relievers over the first month and a half, Otero hit a rough stretch in late May, resulting in his demotion to Nashville. Things weren't any better for him after his mid-July return, with an eight-run blowup on Aug. 16 leading to another trip back to Nashville. It's hard to imagine he'll be entrusted with any high-leverage work after that disaster.

Otero was recalled from Triple-A Nashville on Sunday. Otero seems to have figured things out at Triple-A Nashville, posting a 1.08 ERA and 13:2 K:BB over 16.2 innings, after giving up 17 runs in 24.1 innings for the A's earlier this season. He'll likely work as a middle reliever, and his stint in the majors may not last long.

Otero was optioned to Triple-A Nashville on Friday. Excellent in 2013 and 2014, Otero has a 6.29 ERA and 1.48 WHIP through 24.1 innings this season, most recently surrendering four runs in Thursday's win over the Tigers. Even if he does make it back to the majors within the next month or two, Otero has a lot of work to do to prove that he's worthy of pitching in high-leverage situations.

Otero struggled on Wednesday, taking the loss while allowing three runs and five hits over two innings. Otero was rushed into duty in the fourth inning after Scott Kazmir left the game early with shoulder tightness. Otero's ERA rose to 4.88 as he continues to struggle to find his form of 2013 (1.38 ERA in 39 innings) and 2014 (2.28 ERA in 86.2 innings).

Otero was outstanding on Monday, earning the win with four scoreless innings out of the pen. Otero saved the A's with the longest outing of his career after Kendall Graveman was able to only get through three innings. He allowed only one hit while striking out four and lowered his ERA on the season to 3.38.
