Cowgill (hand) remains out of the lineup Tuesday against the Padres. A right hand injury, suffered during batting practice Sunday, kept Cowgill out for the lineup for the opener against San Diego but he did come into the game late to pinch run. It's not entirely clear whether his absence Tuesday is actually related to the injury, as Cowgill typically starts mostly against lefties and the Angels are facing another right-hander (Odrisamer Despaigne), but continue to consider him day-to-day for the time being.

Cowgill (hand) was able to pinch-run for Marc Krauss in the ninth inning of Monday's game against the Padres. Cowgill would ultimately came around to score the game-winning run on Albert Pujols' walk-off RBI single. While the hand injury has kept him out of the lineup the last two games while he remains limited in the batter's box, Cowgill still appears capable of serving as a defensive replacement or pinch-runner, which is all the Angels need out of their fourth outfielder.

Cowgill (hand) is not in the lineup Monday against the Padres. Cowgill injured his left hand while taking swings Sunday, and he'll sit out Monday and should be considered day-to-day. The team is hopeful he'll avoid a DL stint, but more information may not surface until he's given an opportunity to rest the hand for a few days. The Angels will go with a starting outfield Monday of Mike Trout (center), Kole Calhoun (right) and Matt Joyce (left).

Cowgill suffered a right hand injury during batting practice Sunday morning, Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times reports. Cowgill was originally scheduled to play Sunday against the Red Sox before hurting himself while swinging the bat. The Angels are hopeful Cowgill will avoid the DL, but he could be unavailable for the next handful of games.

Cowgill was scratched from Sunday's lineup against the Red Sox after apparently tweaking his back during batting practice, MLB.com's Alden Gonzalez reports. Cowgill was slated to play left field and bat ninth in the order, but those plans were scrapped when he aggravated his back prior to the game. Matt Joyce will enter the lineup in his stead.

Cowgill is in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Astros. Cowgill has seen most of his action against lefties this season, so he'll step in as the starter in left field with southpaw Dallas Keuchel on the mound for Houston. Matt Joyce, who got the start in left Friday, will shift to the bench.

Cowgill has been ejected from Saturday's game against Houston, Alden Gonzalez of MLB.com reports. Cowgill was ejected after striking in the seventh inning. Efren Navarro has come in to replace him but Cowgill should be available for Sunday's game.

Cowgill went 2-for-5 with a two-run homer in a win over the Rangers on Monday. Kole Calhoun was held out with a calf injury Tuesday, which allowed Cowgill to hit in the leadoff spot. The 31-year-old will see the majority of his time against southpaws this season, but could have value in that capacity, as he tallied a .790 OPS against his opposite hand in 2014.

Cowgill will get the start in left field Tuesday. Matt Joyce will sit with lefty James Paxton on the mound -- a trend that should continue, at least in the early going. Cowgill has a career .277/.337/.414 slash line against southpaws, which isn't mind blowing, but it's a great deal better than his .206/.275/.262 line against righties.

Cowgill is sporting a .356/.396 /.533 batting line with six doubles in 45 at-bats this spring. There was some talk coming into camp that Matt Joyce would man left field full-time in the absence of Josh Hamilton (shoulder), but Cowgill's strong performance, combined with the fact that Joyce has missed time due to a shoulder injury, could result in the 28-year-old seeing time as the right-handed half of a platoon to begin the season.
