Qualls holds a 4.76 ERA and 1.06 WHIP through 16 appearances out of the Rockies bullpen this season.
EDGE Analysis
After a rough start to the season that saw his ERA balloon as high as 13.50, Qualls has settled down. Although his 4.76 ERA isn't very impressive, it's actually quite deceptive, as he's only allowed runs in one of 11 outings since April 15. That being said, his upside is severely limited with Miguel Castro back in the bullpen and Jason Motte (shoulder) close to returning, meaning some of his higher-leverage innings may be given back to them as long as they are effective.

Qualls will likely slot in as the Rockies' setup man now that Miguel Castro (shoulder) is on the disabled list, Nick Groke of the Denver Post reports.
EDGE Analysis
With Castro and Jason Motte out, Qualls is the logical choice to fill into the spot pitching before Jake McGee in the Colorado bullpen. The being said, manager Walt Weiss said that the role will evolve, so although Qualls will likely get the first crack at the job, Colorado may opt to go with the hot hand in the bullpen later during Castro's DL stint.

Qualls has given up four earned runs and seven hits in four innings to start the season. He has also stuck out two batters in that time.
EDGE Analysis
Qualls gave up runs in half of his appearances this season, and although two runs were unearned, he also served up two home runs already, which is somewhat troublesome. That being said, the right-hander is typically an extremely groundball-heavy pitcher, so the home run woes very well could lessen as the season goes along, which could also bring his ERA back down. Unfortunately, between the slow start and the rise of Miguel Castro into the setup role, Qualls hasn't been getting a lot of high-leverage innings, but those could come if the young Castro struggles or if injuries strike the integral parts of the Rockies bullpen.

Qualls has a strikeout and a walk with two earned runs allowed in three spring innings.
EDGE Analysis
Qualls had a rough outing in his first appearance of the spring, but he has held the opposition scoreless in the two appearances afterward. As long as he continues to pitch effectively, the veteran reliever projects to be used frequently in the late innings, possibly as a setup man for the winner of the closer's battle between Jason Motte and Jake McGee.

Qualls has agreed to a two-year deal with the Rockies.
EDGE Analysis
The Astros declined a team option on Qualls in November following a season in which he posted a 4.38 ERA and 1.12 WHIP over 60 innings while chipping in four saves out of the Houston bullpen. The Rockies also agreed to terms with Jason Motte, and the team's bullpen configuration is not immediately clear, but both Qualls and Motte seem like upgrades over the younger returning options given their experience as late-inning contributors.

Qualls had his club option declined Tuesday, Evan Drellich of the Houston Chronicle reports.
EDGE Analysis
Qualls made it known that he would like to finish his career with the Astros, but apparently the feeling wasn't mutual. The 37-year-old was a useful part of Houston's bullpen this year recording a 4.38 ERA and 1.11 WHIP in 49.1 innings, but he wasn't able to garner many save opportunities, picking up just four after closing 19 games the year before.

Qualls (neck) was reinstated from the 15-day DL on Friday, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports. When Qualls landed on the disabled list June 26, Astros GM Jeff Lunhow said that he expected the reliever to be back after the minimum 15 days. Qualls made a quick recovery and made a pair of rehab appearances this week before coming off the DL. In a corresponding move, the Astros optioned Brett Oberholtzer to Triple-A Fresno.

Qualls (neck) will make another rehab appearance Thursday and could join the Astros in Tampa this weekend, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports. Whether Qualls joins the Astros for the final series before the break will depend upon how many pitches he throws Thursday. If he goes beyond what the team expects, they'll likely wait until after the break to bring him off the DL.

Qualls (neck) will join Double-A Corpus Christi on Tuesday for a minor league rehab stint that should last at least two outings, Evan Drellich of the Houston Chronicle reports. The veteran right-hander is scheduled to pitch Tuesday. Wednesday is a planned day off before another possible outing Thursday. The earliest he could be activated is Friday for the start of a three-game series against the Rays.

Qualls (neck) will begin a rehab assignment at Double-A Corpus Christi at some point this week, MLB.com's Brian McTaggart reports. Qualls has made it through his recent bullpen sessions with no complications, so the team will allow him to resume facing hitters and work his way toward a return. Look for the reliever to be back with the Astros immediately after the All-Star break.
