Casey Janssen (oblique) will make his next rehab appearance Saturday with Double-A New Hampshire. Janssen has thrown two scoreless innings during his rehab assignment thus far. If all goes well Saturday, it's possible that he could be activated on Sunday or Monday. Sergio Santos struggled in his chance at the closer role, so Janssen should get his old gig back soon.

Casey Janssen (oblique) allowed two hits in a scoreless inning Monday in his first rehab appearance with Double-A New Hampshire. Janssen will likely make two or three more appearances before rejoining the Blue Jays. He might be eased back into things upon his return, but the closer role should be his if he proves healthy and effective.

Casey Janssen (oblique) will begin a minor league rehab assignment Monday with Double-A New Hampshire. Janssen is going to start the game and is expected to go one inning. He will probably need four or five rehab appearances before the Blue Jays activate him, and then he might be eased back into closing duties. Janssen has been out all season with oblique and abdominal issues.

Casey Janssen (oblique) said he felt "way better than last time" after throwing a bullpen session Sunday. Janssen had to be shut down last week due to renewed discomfort in his oblique, but it appears he's nearly back on track. He'll throw one more bullpen session before resuming a rehab assignment. Janssen is expected back in mid-May.

Casey Janssen (abdomen) is hoping to throw a bullpen session on Saturday or Sunday. He'll throw an additional one after that before resuming a rehab assignment. The rehab assignment is expected to be a long one, so we won't see Janssen back until mid-May, at the earliest. Sergio Santos will continue to close for the Blue Jays.

Casey Janssen (abdomen) said Tuesday that he hopes to throw a bullpen session this week. Janssen had to be shut down last week due to renewed discomfort in his abdomen and lower back. However, the closer insisted Tuesday that it "wasn't a setback" and that he's not in pain. "To be clear, it wasn't a setback," Janssen said. "I think what it was, was we realized it wasn't going to heal doing what I was doing. And so instead of putting our foot on the gas, we had to take it off a little bit and listen to my body a little bit more." Sergio Santos will continue to close for Toronto while Janssen is out.

Blue Jays manager John Gibbons said Friday that Casey Janssen (back) will miss at least the next two weeks due to a strained muscle in his abdomen/lower back. It's a tough break for the Jays closer, who was hoping to return to the team in mid-April. Sergio Santos is serving as the ninth-inning man in his absence, but suffered an ugly blown save in his last outing.

Casey Janssen has been shut down temporarily with renewed discomfort in his lower back. Janssen threw a scoreless rehab inning on Tuesday but woke up the next day with a sore back. He has been on the disabled list since the end of spring training with a strained muscle in his lower back and abdomen. Sergio Santos remains the Blue Jays' closer.

Casey Janssen (back) will begin a rehab assignment with High-A Dunedin on Monday. While he will report to the team Monday, it might not be until Tuesday when Janssen gets into a game. He's expected to need 2-3 appearances before being activated, which could come by the end of this week. It's not clear whether Janssen will immediately get his closer job back or if Blue Jays manager John Gibbons will ease him back into things.

Casey Janssen (abdomen) threw another successful bullpen session on Saturday afternoon. Janssen felt good during and after the workout, and is likely to embark on a minor league rehab assignment early next week. Sergio Santos remains the Blue Jays' fill-in closer for now, but Janssen is coming soon.
