Ruiz is out of the lineup Wednesday against the Athletics.
EDGE Analysis
Ruiz has just two hits in May (2-for-19), so he'll head to the bench in favor of Tuffy Gosewisch. The veteran backstop is slashing just .125/.234/.175 in 19 games this season.

Ruiz is out of Saturday's lineup against the Blue Jays.
EDGE Analysis
He has 19 at-bats over the Mariners' last 14 games, and is hitting .105 over that span. Tuffy Gosewisch will start behind the dish and hit ninth.

Ruiz is not in the lineup Thursday against the Blue Jays, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.
EDGE Analysis
Despite knocking in four runs during Wednesday's win over the Phillies, Ruiz will head to the bench for the second time in three games. Duffy Gosewisch will draw the start behind the plate in his stead.

Ruiz went 1-for-4 with a three-run double and a sacrifice fly in Wednesday's win over the Phillies.
EDGE Analysis
He also struck out twice, but Ruiz still stuck it to his former team, delivering the day's most unexpected four-RBI line. Unfortunately, he's still sitting on a hideous .129 average; even more unfortunately, he's the Mariners' starting catcher anyway. The 38-year-old Panamanian looks like he's close to the end of the line, but he'll retain the No. 1 role behind the plate in Seattle at least until Mike Zunino can hit his way back to the big leagues.

Ruiz is not in the lineup Tuesday against the Phillies, Ryan Divish of the Seattle Times reports.
EDGE Analysis
Ruiz is hitless in May (0-for-5) so he'll head to the bench to clear his head as Tuffy Gosewisch gets the nod behind the dish in his place.

Ruiz is 3-for-22 in 28 plate appearances and just one extra base hit to begin the season.
EDGE Analysis
Ruiz functions as the backup catcher behind Mike Zunino, and he has eight starts to his ledger. Nonetheless, it has not been an easy go for him so far, and it's unlikely he'll see serious playing time this season.

Ruiz went 2-for-4 with an RBI double and run in Sunday's 10-9 loss to the Angels.
EDGE Analysis
The veteran backstop drew the start for Mike Zunino and rapped out his first pair of hits on the season. It was only Ruiz's second start, and as per manager Scott Servais' previous statements, he's scheduled to see an above-average amount of playing time for a backup catcher this season. The 38-year-old sports a serviceable .266/.352/.393 line over his long career and is therefore expected to provide solid offensive production whenever he's in the lineup.

Ruiz went 2-for-2 with an RBI single in Thursday's 6-2 Cactus League win over the Brewers.
EDGE Analysis
The veteran catcher is now hitting .333 after Thursday's effort, which included a run-scoring single that drove home Ben Gamel in the fourth. Ruiz has built a rock-solid offensive resume over his 10-plus major league seasons, and, although he's slated as Mike Zunino's backup, the plan is for him to receive a greater degree of playing time than that of a typical reserve catcher.

Ruiz, who came to the Mariners in a Nov. 7 trade with the Dodgers, is slated to potentially receive potentially more playing time than typically afforded to back-ups, Ryan Divish of the Seattle Times reports.
EDGE Analysis
The 38-year-old backstop brings a wealth of experience and a productive bat to the Mariners as starting catcher Mike Zunino's primary backup, having hit .264 with eight doubles, three homers and 15 RBI over 62 games last season with the Phillies and Dodgers. There appear to be no plans to coddle Ruiz in terms of managing his playing time either, with manager Scott Servais emphasizing that they're not looking for Zunino to "play or catch 125 or 130 games." As such, Ruiz could potentially see a similar degree of opportunity as last season, particularly given Servais' lofty view of what he can still bring to the table. "He's been on a World Series team, lot of good teams over in Philadelphia, gets traded for his first time last year over to the Dodgers and really does a nice job with them, helps them in their playoff run.Just the experience level he brings and he can still play, he can still hit, there's no doubt. Not a power guy by any means but handles the bat, controls the strike zone. It's a really nice fit with Mike Zunino."

Ruiz was traded to the Mariners in exchange for left-handed pitcher Vidal Nuno on Monday.
EDGE Analysis
Ruiz was a solid backup catcher down the stretch after being acquired by the Dodgers, but given the younger options behind the dish (Yasmani Grandal, Austin Barnes), the veteran backstop was deemed expendable. It's unclear how playing time will be distributed between the 37-year-old and incumbents Mike Zunino and Jesus Sucre, but either way, Ruiz has an opportunity to appear in the lineup more now that designated hitting is an option to keep his bat in the lineup.
