Contreras cleared waivers Wednesday and has been released by the Reds, Zach Buchanan of the Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

Contreras has been recalled by the Reds. He'll replace Homer Bailey (elbow, 15-day DL) on the roster for Monday's game against the Brewers. Contreras may head back to Triple-A Louisville before Thursday's game against Milwaukee when the Reds may opt to bring up a starter from the minors to replace Bailey in the rotation.
