The Diamondbacks released Holaday on Sunday.
EDGE Analysis
Since Carson Kelly returned from the injured list July 30, Holaday has slipped to third on the depth chart at catcher and has seen scarce playing time, making only three starts over the past month. Given Holaday's status as a 33-year-old career journeyman on an expiring deal, the Diamondbacks' decision to release him comes as little surprise. Infielder Andrew Young was promoted form Triple-A Reno to take Holaday's spot on the active roster.

Holaday will start at catcher and bat eighth Monday against the Pirates.
EDGE Analysis
Holaday will crack the lineup for the fourth time since receiving a call-up from Triple-A Reno on July 3. Unless Daulton Varsho joins top backstop Carson Kelly (wrist) on the injured list at some point, Holaday likely won't be in store for much more than two or three starts per week while he's with the big club.

Holaday's contract was selected by the Diamondbacks on Saturday.
EDGE Analysis
Holaday signed a minor-league deal with Arizona during the offseason, and he slashed .263/.315/.579 with seven home runs, 30 RBI, 20 runs and a stolen base in 30 games with Triple-A Reno. He's appeared in 64 major-league games with the Marlins and Orioles across the last two seasons and will now be available as catching depth while Carson Kelly (wrist) remains sidelined.

Holaday re-signed with the Diamondbacks on Saturday via a minor-league deal, Nick Piecoro of The Arizona Republic reports.
EDGE Analysis
The 33-year-old was released by Arizona earlier in the day but was able to agree to terms on a new pact. Holaday will provide organizational depth behind the plate for the Diamondbacks.

Holaday was released by the Diamondbacks on Saturday, Nick Piecoro of The Arizona Republic reports.
EDGE Analysis
Holaday served as a non-roster invitee this spring and appeared in 11 Cactus League games. During that time, he hit .308 with two runs and one RBI. The team has interest in re-signing the 33-year-old as organizational depth, but Holaday will be free to seek out other opportunities as a free agent.

Holaday signed a minor-league contract with the Diamondbacks on Monday, Nick Piecoro of The Arizona Republic reports.
EDGE Analysis
Holaday has been a depth piece for most of his career, and that's probably what he'll be this season, as he's likely behind Carson Kelly, Stephen Vogt and Daulton Varsho in the Diamondbacks' catcher depth chart. Holaday has hit just .238/.283/.333 over his nine-year career and hit a miserable .161/.212/.194 in limited action for the Orioles last season.

Holaday is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Blue Jays.
EDGE Analysis
The clear third backstop on the roster behind Pedro Severino and Chance Sisco, Holaday hasn't seen much action since being promoted to the big club Aug. 1. He's appeared in 11 games this month while going 4-for-16 with five runs and two RBI.

Holaday's contract was selected by Baltimore on Saturday.
EDGE Analysis
Holaday hit a solid .278/.344/.435 in 43 games for the Marlins last season, though he's a career .241/.287/.340 hitter over his eight-year big-league career. He doesn't have a clear path to playing time in Baltimore, as he'll be behind Pedro Severino and Chance Sisco on the depth chart.

Holaday will be a part of the Orioles' 60-man player pool this season.
EDGE Analysis
He is not on the 40-man roster and is fourth on the organizational depth chart at catcher behind Pedro Severino, Chance Sisco and Austin Wynns.
