Brett Pill has been cleared to take swings on Sunday, less than two weeks after undergoing arthroscopic surgery on his right meniscus. Pill, 28, will likely have a bench role with the Giants once he returns, but Brandon Belt's monster spring has ensured that Pill's role won't extend any further.

Brett Pill will be sidelined three weeks after undergoing arthroscopic surgery on his right meniscus. He should be healthy just after Opening Day, but it seems likely that he would need at least another week to get back in game shape. Pill is batting .259/.310/.593 with two homers this spring and had been slated to make the Giants' Opening Day bench.

Brent Pill tweaked his knee and won't play in Thursday's Cactus League game. Pill hopes to return Friday, so it doesn't sound like a major concern. The 28-year-old batted .210/.265/.352 with four homers and a .618 OPS in 114 plate appearances last season and is in the mix for a bench job this spring.

Brett Pill launched a pair of homers in Tuesday's Cactus League tie to the Dodgers. Pill took Dodgers closer Brandon League deep with a solo shot in the fourth before finishing his day off with a two-run blast in the ninth off of Gregory Infante, which tied the game up with two outs. The 28-year-old is competing for a bench job this spring.
