Though Moss often starts against right-handers like the Astros' David Paulino, he'll take a seat Tuesday, as manager Ned Yost wanted to give third baseman Mike Moustakas a day out of the field. With Moustakas manning Moss' usual spot as the designated hitter, Cheslor Cuthbert will handle the hot corner.

Manager Ned Yost has made a habit of holding Moss out against left-handed pitching this season, so it's not surprising the 33-year-old will be on the bench for the second time in the series with southpaw Matthew Boyd starting for the Tigers. The Royals will give Salvador Perez a day off behind the plate and use him at Moss' usual DH spot.

Moss will hit the pine with the Royals matching up against a left-handed starter in Daniel Norris, allowing Jorge Soler to enter the lineup at DH. Moss should continue to handle the strong side of a platoon, but even in that capacity, he hasn't provided the sort of impact the Royals were expecting after signing him to a two-year deal in January. He's batting .157/.237/.382 over 114 plate appearances against right-handed pitching this season.

Moss went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run in Friday's 6-4 victory over Cleveland.

The home run got Kansas City back in the game, as they had been trailing 4-0 before Moss' big swing. The power-hitting lefty is only slashing .198/.262/.468 on the season, but when he makes contact, the ball can travel a long way; nine of his 22 hits on the campaign have left the yard. For fantasy purposes, his 34% strikeout rate cancels out any upside that the power stroke might have.

Moss is not in the lineup Tuesday against the Yankees.

Southpaw Jordan Montgomery is pitching for the Bronx Bombers on Tuesday, so Moss will head to the bench for a night off. Salvador Perez will move into the designated hitter spot to replace him while Drew Butera slots in behind the plate to round out the lineup.

According to Dave Holtzman of Fox Sports, four of Moss' six homers in 2017 have broken ties, and six of his last nine (dating back to last year) have done the same. The 33-year-old has a history of heating up with the weather, and if the last two games are any indication, it looks like the same may be the case in 2017.

Moss is out of the lineup Thursday against the Rays.

Even though the Rays are bringing a right-hander in Jake Odorizzi to the hill, Moss will find himself on the bench for the second contest in a row, likely as a result of his inability to hit his way out of his season-long slump. After striking out in all four of his at-bats Wednesday, Moss now sits on an abysmal .150/.233/.313 line over 90 plate appearances. He could soon start losing out on starts more frequently to the likes of Jorge Bonifacio and Cheslor Cuthbert.
