Atlanta Braves starting pitcher Brandon McCarthy (knee) doesn't have enough time left in the season to make a return and will be shut down, according to manager Brian Snitker. The veteran McCarthy was only able to make 15 starts this year for the Braves due to injury, and he went 6-3 with a 4.92 ERA, 1.46 WHIP and 7.4 K/9. The 35-year-old is planning on hanging up his cleats after this season.

Brandon McCarthy To Throw Batting Practice Saturday rotoballer.com Thu 8/16/18 12:54 PM

Atlanta Braves starting pitcher Brandon McCarthy (knee) is scheduled to throw live batting practice at Triple-A Gwinnett on Saturday, and he could pitch in relief as soon as Tuesday for Gwinnett, according to manager Brian Snitker. McCarthy, who announced he will retire at the end of this season, is transitioning to a relief role and should be able to help the Braves down the stretch. He has zero fantasy value without a role in the rotation, though.

Brandon McCarthy To Retire After Season rotoballer.com Tue 8/14/18 5:33 PM

Atlanta Braves veteran starting pitcher Brandon McCarthy (knee) said he has decided to retire after the 2018 season. He will spend the next few weeks making mechanical adjustments so that he can potentially boost the bullpen for the stretch run. The right-hander is 6-3 with a 4.92 ERA on the season in 15 starts. He can be dropped if you were hanging onto him for a potential return, as he won't have any value pitching in relief. "If I go out there and just [look mediocre], then there is no reaso[...]

Brandon McCarthy Throws Off Mound Tuesday rotoballer.com Tue 8/14/18 12:10 PM

Atlanta Braves starting pitcher Brandon McCarthy (knee) threw off a mound on Tuesday and is trying to make adjustments that would allow him to pitch in a relief role in September. That pretty much closes the book on his fantasy value in 2018. The veteran right-hander is 6-3 with a 4.92 ERA, 1.46 WHIP and 7.4 K/9 in 15 starts, so he was really just a deep league streamer before his injury. You can look for better options if you were holding him in an NL-only league.

Brandon McCarthy Has Been Throwing rotoballer.com Mon 7/23/18 4:07 PM

Atlanta Braves starting pitcher Brandon McCarthy (knee) has been throwing but still isn't 100 percent, according to manager Brian Snitker. "He's throwing to keep his arm (fit), but he's just playing catch. The knee's still not 100 percent to where he can get up there and start torquing it on the mound," Snitker said. The veteran right-hander doesn't look like he'll be back anytime soon. He had a 4.92 ERA, 1.46 [...]

Brandon McCarthy Placed on Disabled List rotoballer.com Thu 6/28/18 8:55 AM

Atlanta Braves starting pitcher Brandon McCarthy was placed on the disabled list on Thursday with right knee tendinitis. McCarthy was scheduled to start on Saturday, but the injury forces the Braves to find another starter. Matt Wisler was recalled from Triple-A and will presumably take McCarthy's spot in the rotation for Saturday's start against the Cardinals. Wisler is not a viable streaming option, as he owns a career 5.18 ERA and 1.40 [...]
