Kintzler confirmed Monday that he's healthy and will be available when Miami returns from an eight-day break Tuesday in Baltimore, Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald reports.
EDGE Analysis
The Marlins are back in action after having all of their games postponed last week due to a team-wide COVID-19 outbreak that saw 18 players test positive for the coronavirus. According to Kintzler, eight of the infected players are relievers, which explains why the Marlins have made a slew of trades and waiver claims in recent days to add more bullpen arms. Manager Don Mattingly indicated shortly before the season began that Kintzler would serve as the team's primary closer, and his job security may only increase in light of all the absences in the bullpen. Before last week's shutdown, Kintzler saw the only save opportunity for the Marlins, working around a base hit to retire the side in the Opening Day win over the Phillies.

Kintzler and the rest of the Marlins won't play for the rest of the week due to the team's COVID-19 outbreak, Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports.
EDGE Analysis
Approximately half of the team's active roster has tested positive for the virus. It's not clear whether or not Kintzler is part of that group, but he won't be playing for at least a week even if healthy, as the Marlins' next scheduled game will come next Tuesday against the Phillies.

Kintzler worked around a hit to pitch a scoreless ninth inning and earn the save against Philadelphia on Opening Day.
EDGE Analysis
He put a man on to begin the inning, but Kintzler ultimately induced a groundball double play to end the game. The soon-to-be 36-year-old has always leaned heavily on his sinker, relying on groundballs and a low walk rate to get the job done over traditional late-inning dominance. He'll get BABIP'd on occasion with the amount of contact he allows, but manager Don Mattingly seems to value Kintzler's track record and past experience closing games.

Kintzler is expected to begin the season as the Marlins' closer, Joe Frisaro of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Manager Don Mattingly indicated before spring training the 35-year-old would be the team's primary closer, and five months later that appears to remain the case for the shortened season. Kintzler joined Miami on a one-year deal after posting a 2.68 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 48:13 K:BB over 57 innings with the Cubs last season. Ryne Stanek and Yimi Garcia are potential the next men up for the ninth inning for the Marlins.

Kintzler walked the first four batters he faced in Friday's Grapefruit League game against the Astros, throwing only nine of 25 pitches for strikes in the outing, Jordan McPherson of The Miami Herald reports.
EDGE Analysis
It was only his second appearance of the spring, but there was little positive to take away from this performance. The veteran right-hander is still expected to open the season as the Marlins' closer after signing a one-year deal with the club in the offseason, but if Kintzler continues to fight his control as the spring proceeds, it could open the door for Ryne Stanek, Drew Steckenrider or another hard-throwing Miami reliever to push their way into the saves mix.

Marlins manager Don Mattingly indicated that Kintzler will be the team's primary closer this season, Craig Mish of FNTSY Sports Radio reports.
EDGE Analysis
Mattingly didn't explicitly list Kintzler as the closer but made it clear that's the direction the team plans to go. Ryne Stanek and Drew Steckenrider could theoretically enter the conversation as well, though that pair has combined for just seven career saves, a total dwarfed by Kintzler's 49.

Kintzler signed a one-year, $3.25 million deal with the Marlins on Saturday, Jesse Rogers of ESPN.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
The veteran right-hander put together a solid season with the Cubs in 2019, posting a 2.68 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 48:13 K:BB with 17 holds and one save over 57 innings. Kintzler figures to enter spring training in a setup role for the Marlins, but save opportunities could be in store given the team is without an established closer. Former starter Jose Urena finished the 2019 campaign in the role with uneven results, which could provide save chances for Kintzler or Ryne Stanek.

Kintzler worked around a hit batsman to throw a scoreless ninth inning Saturday against the Cardinals. He earned his first save of the season.
EDGE Analysis
Kintzler turned in a couple scoreless appearances in his first two outings back from an oblique injury, and manager Joe Maddon decided to reward him with the save opportunity. Craig Kimbrel did not pitch in the game and has not made an appearance since Sept. 21, when he gave up back-to-back homers in a loss. A free agent this winter, Kintzler should have plenty of suitors after posting a 2.68 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 55 percent groundball rate during his only full season in Chicago.

Kintzler (oblique) will be available out of the bullpen Friday against the Cardinals, Jordan Bastian of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
A mild left oblique strain has kept Kintzler off the mound for 10 days. He'll be a valuable weapon in the back part of the Cubs' bullpen now that he's ready to go, as he owns a 2.82 ERA and a 1.03 WHIP in 54.1 innings this season.

Kintzler (oblique) is expected to throw off a mound "in the next day or two," Gordon Wittenmyer of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
EDGE Analysis
Kintzler hasn't pitched in a week due to a mild left oblique strain, but he'll test the injury later in the week to determine his availability moving forward.
