Kintzler was informed he'd won an Opening Day roster spot Friday, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
Kintzler was in camp as merely a non-roster invitee, but it would have been tough for him to fail to win a job coming off a season in which he saved 12 games while recording a 2.22 ERA. He looked strong this spring, allowing one earned run in 8.2 innings while striking out nine batters, leaving little doubt he deserved to break camp with the team. He's not a favorite to earn saves for the Phillies this season but isn't too far down the depth chart should the top few options struggle or get injured.

Kintzler's bullpen spot appears to be very safe despite the fact that he's in camp as a non-roster invitee, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
Looking at Kintzler's 12 saves and 2.22 ERA for the Marlins last season, it's something of a surprise the veteran had to settle for a minor-league deal. His underlying numbers weren't nearly so convincing, however, as his 13.9 percent strikeout rate and 10.9 percent walk rate were both poor, and his 57.3 percent groundball rate, while strong, wouldn't typically be enough to overcome them. Kintzler appears to be firmly in the Phillies' plans this season, however, especially as he's reportedly throwing harder than he did last year. He isn't a favorite to save games at the moment, but he has plenty of experience in the role and could be called on at some point if the Phillies' top relievers struggle.

Kintzler signed a minor-league contract with the Phillies on Wednesday, Jesse Rogers of ESPN.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Kintzler has had two of the best seasons of his career over the past two years. He converted on 13 of his 17 save chances while posting a 2.55 ERA and 1.11 WHIP over 81.1 innings across 86 relief appearances with the Cubs and Marlins. The 36-year-old reportedly turned down a major-league offer to return to Miami in 2021, and he'll instead compete for a roster spot with the Phillies during spring training.

Kintzler's $4 million club option was declined by the Marlins on Friday.
EDGE Analysis
Kintzler served as the Marlins' primary closer in 2020 as he posted a career-best 2.22 ERA while converting on 12 of his 14 save opportunities during his first season with Miami. The 36-year-old has pitched effectively over the past two years as he now prepares for free agency.

Kintzler fired one scoreless inning Friday to earn the save in Game 2 of the NL Wild Card Series against the Cubs. He allowed one hit and no walks while striking out three.
EDGE Analysis
Kintzler's ninth-inning outing got off to a rough start when he gave up a double to Jason Heyward to begin the frame. However, the 36-year-old struck out the next three hitters to end the game with his sinker that painted the edge of the strike zone. Kintzler should be called on in save situations during the NLDS against Atlanta after recording 12 saves with a 2.22 ERA and 1.32 WHIP over 24.1 innings during the regular season.

Kintzler walked two batters in the 10th inning of Friday's game against the Yankees but ultimately got the job done for his 12th save of the season.
EDGE Analysis
Kintzler had to face DJ LeMahieu with the bases loaded and one out after walking two of the first three batters in the 10th. The 36-year-old was able to induce a chopper towards second base in which Miguel Rojas was able to glove, step on the bag and throw to first for the 6-3 double play to end the game. The save tied Kintzler with Josh Hader for the most in the National League while also punching the Marlins a ticket to the postseason for the first time since 2003. This season has been a remarkable story for Kintzler, who has a career-best 2.22 ERA and double-digit saves for the first time since 2017.

Kintzler recorded his 11th save of the season in Thursday's 4-2 win over Atlanta, giving up one hit and one walk over two scoreless innings. He struck out three.
EDGE Analysis
The Marlins had a shutout going until Brad Boxberger ran into trouble in the eighth inning, loading the bases with nobody out, and manager Don Mattingly decided to take no chances and brought in his closer. Kintzler did allow two inherited runners to score, but he shut the door on Atlanta after that. It was his second save in as many appearances after going more than two weeks without one earlier in the month, but he might need to nail down one or two more if the Marlins are going to clinch a playoff berth over the final days of the season.

Kintzler worked around two hits and a walk to throw a scoreless seventh inning and earn the save in the first game of Sunday's doubleheader against the Nationals. He struck out one batter.
EDGE Analysis
This one was not pretty, but the team pitched around Juan Soto and Kintzler ultimately got out of the jam by striking out Kurt Suzuki. Kintzler lacks the swing-and-miss dominance of a traditional closer, but he has gotten the job done this season by keeping the ball on the ground and at this point it seems like a lock that the Marlins will pick up Kintzler's $4 million option for 2021.

Kintzler (2-3) allowed two hits and two walks while surrendering an earned run to blow the save Monday against the Braves. However, he did earn the win.
EDGE Analysis
Kintzler came on in the ninth inning to protect a 4-3 lead, but immediately coughed it up by allowing a solo home run to Adam Duvall. He got into more trouble, loading the bases with one out, before inducing a double play to escape with the game tied. Though he earned a win thanks to Miami's offense in the 10th inning, Kintzler has now allowed an earned run and blown a save in each of his past two appearances. He's been strong overall, this season maintaining a 3.31 ERA across 16.1 innings, though he has just an 8:6 K:BB.

Kintzler (1-3) took the loss and a blown save against the Rays on Sunday, allowing two runs (one earned) on a hit and a walk across two-thirds of an inning. He did not record a strikeout.
EDGE Analysis
Kintzler was called on to pitch the bottom of the 10th after the Marlins took a 4-3 lead in the top half of the inning. Joey Wendle began the frame as the runner on second base and quickly scored on Ji-Man Choi's double. Choi would come across to score the winning run on Brandon Lowe's sacrifice fly three batters later. Although Kintzler took his third loss and first blown save of the season, he still holds a strong 2.93 ERA and should continue to receive the bulk of save chances going forward.
