Barnes departed Wednesday's game in the seventh inning after a hard slide into second base, Dargan Southard of MLB.com reports. At this time, it's unclear exactly what injury Barnes may have suffered. He initially stayed in the game after being checked out by team medical personnel but was later removed for pinch hitter Ben Paulsen. Further information should be available in the near future, but for now consider Barnes day-to-day until th eteam says otherwise.

Barnes went 4-for-7 with a run and two RBI while starting both games of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Dodgers. Barnes has started six straight games for the Rockies, and it seems safe to safe at this point that manager Walt Weiss has settled on him as the primary replacement for Corey Dickerson (foot) in left field. He's not going to be able to uphold the lofty .372 batting average he's delivered through his first 43 at-bats with the Rockies, but his standing as a lineup regular in one of the league's best hitting environments makes him a must-own in NL-only formats.

Barnes is out of the lineup Sunday against the Phillies. The injury to Corey Dickerson (foot) has opened up fairly regular at-bats for Barnes in left field, but he'll be rested for only the second time in eight games Sunday, as Ben Paulsen draws the start. After a miserable start to the season at Triple-A Albuquerque, Barnes has surprisingly found his hitting stroke immediately upon his return to the majors. He's gone 11-for-29 (.379) across his 11 games with the Rockies.

Barnes will bat leadoff and play center field Monday against the Reds. Despite slashing .205/.266/.364 over 132 at-bats at Triple-A Albuquerque, Barnes earned a promotion to the Rockies last week when Corey Dickerson (foot) landed on the DL. Since then, Barnes has improbably turned into the Rockies' hottest hitter, going 8-for-13 with three doubles, three RBI, and five runs scored in his six games with the club. Manager Walt Weiss may continue to ride Barnes on a regular basis while his bat remains hot, but his MLB track record suggests a steep correction is coming.

Barnes recorded a pinch-hit RBI single and would come around to score in the Rockies' 11-8 loss to the Giants on Friday. Barnes had to wait a while to score the run, as the game was delayed for an hour and 33 minutes due to rain after the outfielder's at-bat. While Barnes figures to be primarily deployed in a reserve role during his stay with the big club, his 4-for-4 performance in Thursday's series finale against the Phillies demonstrates that he'll be an intriguing option in daily formats when he receives a start at Coors Field.

Barnes went 4-for-4 with a double and an RBI in Thursday's win over Philadelphia. A terrific day for Barnes, and if he can hit more in the short term, he'll have a chance to carve out playing time in a Rockies outfield that's not exactly tearing it up offensively. However, the 29-yeaar-old was hitting just .205 in Triple-A and has never done much at the MLB level, so fantasy owners outside of NL-only formats probably won't find much intrigue here.

Barnes was recalled from Triple-A Albuquerque on Wednesday, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports. Despite Barnes' meager .205/.266/.364 batting line in Triple-A, he'll get a shot at a bench role with the Rockies following the injury to Corey Dickerson. He probably won't see everyday starts, but could receive an occasional nod at any of the three outfield spots.

Barnes has a woeful .262 on-base percentage over 133 plate appearances at Triple-A Albuquerque. A surprising cut by the Rockies during spring training, Barnes' early returns at the Triple-A level won't put him under consideration for a cal-up unless a rash of injuries hit the big club. Though his five homers are tied for the Albuquerque lead, Barnes' low-contact skills have been exposed in an everyday role. He's best optimized as a late-inning defensive replacement or pinch-hitter off the bench, a role he excelled in last season for the Rockies.

Barnes was optioned to Triple-A Albuquerque on Wednesday, MLB.com's Thomas Harding reports. Barnes was originally in contention to earn the Rockies' fifth outfielder job, but the team will instead roll with starters Corey Dickerson, Charlie Blackmon and Carlos Gonzalez, while Drew Stubbs occupies the reserve role. If any of those options go down to injury at any point, look for Barnes to hear his name called.

Barnes appears in line to open the season as the Rockies' fifth outfielder, Patrick Saunders of the Denver Post reports. Both of the Rockies' projected reserves -- Barnes and Drew Stubbs -- possess the ability to play all three outfield spots, giving the team solid depth in the event historically fragile Carlos Gonzalez breaks down again at some point in 2015. In addition to offering utility as a late-inning defensive replacement, Barnes thrived as a bench bat last season, accruing a .338/.378/.610 line over the 85 plate appearances he made in games he didn't start.
