Giants activated LHP Barry Zito from the 15-day disabled list. Zito has been out since mid-April with a mid-foot sprain, but he's healthy now and looked terrific during his four rehab starts, posting a 2.20 ERA, 0.77 WHIP and 25/7 K/BB ratio over 28 2/3 innings. He's taking Jonathan Sanchez's spot in the rotation, with his first start back coming during Tuesday's doubleheader.

Giants manager Bruce Bochy confirmed that Barry Zito (foot) will be activated from the disabled list to start the second game of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Cubs. Zito has been terrific during his rehab assignment and the foot is no longer an issue. But, with Ryan Vogelsong pitching so well, Tuesday's outing will be just a spot start before the lefty moves into a long relief role.

Barry Zito (foot) is likely to start one of the games during the doubleheader with the Cubs on June 28. Zito will make one more rehab start on Tuesday before being activated from the disabled list shortly after. He'll likely be available as a long man out of the bullpen before his start on the 28th, and it appears that that might be his role going forward. Ryan Vogelsong and his 1.92 ERA should remain in the rotation indefinitely.

Barry Zito (foot) surrendered four earned runs Thursday in a six-inning rehab start at Triple-A Fresno. Zito threw just 58 of his 95 pitches for strikes, allowing two walks and five hits in the rough rehab outing. He did a nice job in his time at Single-A Fresno, but the better competition is clearly presenting a bigger challenge for the veteran left-hander. He will probably be asked to make another minor league start.
