Andres Torres, in his second game back after his DL stint, went 1-for-4 and drove in a run in the Mets' loss to the Astros on Tuesday. Torres now has three hits and a pair of RBI in his two games back, and looks well worthy of a pickup for those looking for speed in deeper leagues. When Jason Bay returns from his injury, the Mets will be forced to make some difficult decisions on how to split the time in the outfield between Bay, Torres, Lucas Duda and Kirk Nieuwenhuis.

Andres Torres (calf) is expected to rejoin the Mets early next week in Houston. Torres will continue playing in minor league rehab games until then, trying to get his timing right at the plate and in the outfield. He went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases in a game at High-A St. Lucie on Monday.

Andres Torres (calf) went 3-for-4 with an RBI, two stolen bases and two runs scored Monday in his first minor league rehab game with High-A St. Lucie. Torres is likely to spend a few days in the minors, but that he stole two bases is a sign that his calf is feeling good. The Mets will have an interesting decision to make once he's ready, as rookie Kirk Nieuwhenhuis has played well during his absence.

Andres Torres (calf) will begin a minor league rehab assignment Monday with High-A St. Lucie. Torres landed on the disabled list after aggravating a left calf strain on Opening Day. The Mets will likely bring him along slowly in order to avoid another setback. Kirk Nieuwenhuis will continue to start in center field for now.

Mets assistant general manager John Ricco said the team is taking it slow with Andres Torres (calf) because they don't want him to have a setback. Torres originally hurt the calf in spring training and was rushed back to action, only to aggravate the ailment on Opening Day. He hit off a tee, took soft-toss swings and played catch Monday and will do the same thing Tuesday. It's not clear when he'll start running again, but a return before May, according to Anthony DiComo of MLB.com, "seems unlikely."

Mets manager Terry Collins said Friday that Andres Torres (calf) hasn't yet resumed running. Torres has begun tossing a baseball at the team's facility in Port St. Lucie, but it's pretty clear he won't be ready to return when he's eligible on April 21. Kirk Nieuwenhuis and Scott Hairston will continue to split playing time in center field for now.

Mets' manager Terry Collins said Monday that Andres Torres (calf) hasn't made any progress and will need a "bare minimum" of two weeks on the disabled list. Torres was sidelined with a left calf sprain during spring training and aggravated the injury on Opening Day. The Mets figure to give him some extra recovery time to avoid another setback. Kirk Nieuwenhuis and Scott Hairston will split playing time in center field until he returns.

Mets placed OF Andres Torres on the 15-day disabled list with left calf strain. Torres aggravated his left calf injury during Thursday's opener and will head down to Port St. Lucie on Friday to begin the rehab process. It's not clear how long he'll be out, but we're guessing it will probably be longer than the minimum 15 days. Scott Hairston figures to see the bulk of the playing time in center field during his absence, though Kirk Nieuwenhuis, who takes Torres' spot on the roster, could also get a shot.
