Simmons is out of the lineup Thursday against the Royals with ankle soreness, Betsy Helfand of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.
EDGE Analysis
The 31-year-old had the ankle issue crop up during Tuesday's matchup with Baltimore, and he's now sitting out for the second straight contest. Jorge Polcano will move to shortstop in his place while Nick Gordan starts at second base.

Simmons is not starting Wednesday's game against the Orioles.
EDGE Analysis
The shortstop receives a day of rest after consecutive 2-for-4 showings against the Orioles. He's hit .321 in his last eight games, providing a valuable spark at the bottom of Minnesota's lineup. Jorge Polanco fills in at shortstop.

Simmons went 2-for-4 with a pair of base hits in Sunday's 3-2 win over the Orioles in 10 innings.
EDGE Analysis
Simmons concluded May with five two-hit games, but all but one of those 10 hits were singles. The veteran shortstop has never been regarded as a major source of power, but his contributions in that department are even lighter than usual this season. He's holding down a .321 slugging average for the season, which would be the lowest mark of his career by 10 points.

Simmons (ankle) will sit Thursday against the White Sox.
EDGE Analysis
Right ankle inflammation forced Simmons to exit Wednesday's contest and will cost him at least one start. Jorge Polanco will slide to shortstop in his absence, with Luis Arraez starting at second base.

Simmons was removed from Wednesday's loss to the White Sox with right ankle inflammation, Do-Hyoung Park of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
The injury apparently occurred Tuesday during a slide, but the 31-year-old still started Wednesday with the ankle taped up. Simmons went 0-for-2 with a walk and an RBI before exiting the contest, and he should be considered day-to-day heading into Thursday's series finale in Chicago.

Simmons (illness) will start at shortstop and bat eighth Monday against Cleveland, Betsy Helfand of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.
EDGE Analysis
As anticipated, the Twins won't waste any time moving Simmons back into the starting nine after activating him from the COVID-19 injured list earlier this week. Simmons, who had gotten on base at a .474 clip in his first 10 games with the Twins before landing on the IL, should step back into an everyday role in the middle infield.

The Twins reinstated Simmons (illness) from the COVID-19 injured list Monday, Betsy Helfand of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.
EDGE Analysis
Minnesota optioned middle infielder Nick Gordon to its alternate training site to clear a spot on the 26-man active roster for Simmons, who was sidelined for approximately two weeks after testing positive for COVID-19. Given his relatively quick return from the IL, Simmons presumably only had minor symptoms of the virus throughout his stint on the shelf, so he shouldn't require much time to settle back into an everyday role at shortstop. Prior to being shut down following his positive test, Simmons was slashing .355/.474/.452 over 38 plate appearances.
