Avila went 1-for-4 in Monday's 4-3 extra-innings loss to the Rockies.
EDGE Analysis
Avila got the start with staff ace Zack Greinke hurling. This was Greinke's first start since the Diamondbacks designated John Ryan Murphy, who had been Greinke's personal catcher for the first 11 starts. Manager Torey Lovullo told Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic that he's not yet decided if Greinke will throw exclusively to Avila.

Avila isn't starting Monday's game against the Padres.
EDGE Analysis
Avila will head to the bench for the third straight contest, though there's been no word on any type of injury. Carson Kelly draws the start behind the dish and will bat eighth in Avila's stead.

Avila is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Giants.
EDGE Analysis
Avila finds himself on the bench for the second straight game as the Diamondbacks continue with the three-man rotation at catcher. The 32-year-old is 1-for-9 with three starts since coming off the injured list May 11, though he also has five walks. John Ryan Murphy will start behind the plate and bat eighth in Sunday's series finale.

Avila went 2-for-2 with two walks, a double, an RBI and a run scored in Monday's 9-3 win over the Pirates.
EDGE Analysis
Avila has started two of the three games played since returning from a five-week absence due to a quadriceps injury. He had started four of the Diamondbacks' first nine games before suffering the injury and six of the 11 games for which he's been available this season. He looks like the catcher who may get the most starts of Arizona's three-man catching corps.

Avila (quadriceps) was activated from the 10-day injured list Saturday and will start behind the plate against Atlanta.
EDGE Analysis
Avila went 5-for-15 at the plate prior to landing on the injured list. The Diamondbacks have been reluctant to commit to a starting catcher, so expect Avila to split time with Carson Kelly and John Ryan Murphy fairly evenly going forward.

Manager Torey Lovullo said Avila is "getting close" to a return, Jack Magruder of The Sports Xchange reports.
EDGE Analysis
Avila appeared in a pair of extended spring training games on back-to-back days earlier in the week, bringing the backstop one step closer to rejoining the big-league club. He's been sidelined since April 7 with a strained quadriceps, but if Avila checks out OK in the coming days, he could be cleared to rejoin the Diamondbacks during their upcoming weekend series against the Braves.

Avila (quadriceps) played in an extended spring-training game for the second time in as many days Tuesday, Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reports.
EDGE Analysis
Playing two consecutive days was a good sign for manager Torey Lovullo, who feels Avila could return during the coming weekend series against the Braves. "This was a pretty big hurdle today, for me," Lovullo said. "The evaluation on how he feels tomorrow will be another big hurdle." The Diamondbacks finish a six-game road trip Wednesday and return home to start their series against the Braves on Thursday. With the Braves expected to start right-handers in at least three of the four-game set, Lovullo would like to have Avila's left-handed bat available.

Avila (quadriceps) caught four innings and collected a hit in three at-bats in an extended spring-training game Monday, Dawn Klemish of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Manager Torey Lovullo was happy with Avila's pop time on an attempted stolen base and said the team will reassess where the catcher's at in his recovery Monday night. The Diamondbacks could give the 32-year-old backstop a quick rehab assignment and have him ready for a return during a homestand that begins Thursday.

Avila (quadriceps) ran the bases prior to Wednesday's game at Chase Field, Richard Morin of the Arizona Republic reports.
EDGE Analysis
Avila has ramped up his baseball activity, including catching simulated games for injured starter Taijuan Walker (elbow). He's been out since April 7, so expect Avila to be sent out on a rehab assignment before returning to the active roster.

Avila (quadriceps) said he's shooting to return by early to mid-May, Richard Morin of the Arizona Republic reports.
EDGE Analysis
Avila, who continues to participate in baseball activities, will next catch Taijuan Walker's simulated game Tuesday. The Diamondbacks envision Avila needed at-bats during a rehabilitation assignment or in extended spring training.
