Rosales will make the Opening Day roster, Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports. With Rougned Odor (shin) and Elvis Andrus (back) both likely to be ready by Opening Day, Rosales figures to serve as a utilityman to start the season. Rosales' value to the Rangers largely lies in his ability to play all four infield positions, as he owns a .226/.294/.342 slash line through 985 career at-bats, with 24 home runs and just eight stolen bases.

Rosales will return to Texas on a one-year, $900,000 deal for 2015, CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports. After the Rangers suffered countless injuries, Rosales was called upon last season to play every position in the infield other than catcher, although he saw most of his time at first base. His value to Texas is certainly centered around his versatility, as a .262/.328/.378 slash line from a first baseman certainly doesn't blow anyone away. It would be difficult to envision him seeing as much time as he saw in 2014, and he was not an appealing option last season, so he should be even less useful in 2015.

The Rangers will not tender Rosales a contract, making him a free agent. He was forced into more action than he was probably ready for last season due to all of the injuries ahead of him on the depth chart. In 181 plate appearances, Rosales slashed .262/.328/.378 with four home runs and four steals. He should be able to catch on with another team, but with second base a position of significant depth for the Rangers, he was not needed in Texas for 2015.

Rosales is not in the lineup Wednesday against the Astros. Ryan Rua will start at first base, as Rosales will get a day off. He's had a strong season, slashing .283/.351/.408 in what's been an otherwise disappointing season for the Rangers.

Rosales (.342/.419/.632) scored a run on Friday night as he went 2-for-4 with one of his hits being a ninth inning double off of Astros closer Chad Qualls. It's been an nice mini-run for Rosales as he's gone 8-for-12 with two homers, five runs scored and four RBI over his last three games played for the Rangers - not bad for a guy not getting everyday at-bats. Rosales, who got the start at first base on Friday, has now played played four different positions this season (1B, 2B, 3B and SS) while also garnering DH at-bats.

Rosales went 2-for-4 with a pair of homers and three RBI in the Rangers' win over the White Sox on Wednesday. The blasts came against Chris Sale and Daniel Webb, and ultimately supplied all of the runs for the Rangers on a day where Nick Tepesch delivered 5.2 shutout innings. Most of Rosales' playing time will continue to come on the wrong side of a platoon when the Rangers face left-handed starters.
