We have a dynasty league with 20 man rosters. I only had one rookie draft pick, so I set 19 keepers. Now I'm attempting to trade for an additional draft pick, but this has presented a problem. If I trade for an earlier pick, my 2nd pick will disappear because I do not have a roster spot open. I cannot drop ANY players during the draft for some reason. Is there some way to fix this so I don't lose a coveted pick in our rookie draft for a technical reason/glitch?

That's a terrible design flaw.

It's there purposely so people don't cut players that get hurt or are demoted or hit release by accident during the actual draft. It would cause a ton of commotion. That's why you can drop the last player taken, and the last player taken only. If you have suggestions on how to make it better, we'd love to hear it though. We're always looking for feedback.

Thanks.

Perhaps a setting for dynasty leagues that would allow an email draft with drops? For us, the only people allowed to be drafted are rookies, so the dropping of a player is not an issue (they'll be on the waiver wire after the draft). It has caused some interesting workarounds in our league (trading non-existent (in our league) 3rd round picks for a player to be dropped later).

I hear you Keith, it makes sense, but doing this can also cause other issues and headaches that are even greater.

Most in terms of cutting players and then giving you extra picks. What about cutting players you may not want because other teams are drafting other players/positions. It sounds easy to just "cut" a player during an e-mail draft, but when we have tested this out for the past few years, it is difficult and not a great idea in many cases.

Injuries during the preseason are also a concern. There are a lot of reasons why it's not allowed, a few of them above.

We are always working to make it easier for dynasty leagues though.

What I can suggest -- and you can let me know how this sounds -- is that we give Commish Powers to cut any player at any time during an e-mail draft. Just the Commish. Sound OK and helpful? I can see if that can be implemented for the future.

We have already made a few changes under the hood for dynasty e-mail drafts in the spring that you may not notice are there, but are.

Thanks for your input, we'll take it into account.

I am the commissioner in this league with Keith and having those powers would solve everything. For our league, only rookies are available to be drafted and it is only two rounds. After that we have a waiver wire following the draft so the issues you bring up about injuries and giving extra picks don't come up.

Thanks for looking into this and accepting the feedback...

Our pleasure and thank you for your feedback, it's very important to us. We always listen to our users.

As our commish said - having commish powers to drop a player would solve the problem completely without causing more issues. Thanks for listening!

The only time you can drop players in an email draft is when it is the last pick made in the draft.

The technical reason concerning your issue is that your league has 20 players. You kept 19 players. You can only have 1 draft pick in the draft, because there is only 1 roster spot to fill. You currently have a 2nd round pick. You can trade that for an earlier pick, but you can't have 2 picks in the draft because that would exceed the 20-player max of the roster that your league has. The behavior there is correct.

Basically you can't trade for an additional pick because you don't have the roster space for it.
