Hello, I have an issue with how a tie is being resolved in our standings.

I have it set so head-to-head record determinesposition, with most total points being the first tiebreaker. Currently, 5 teams are tied for first with a 2-1 record. However, the 4th and 5th place team are in the wrong order based on number of points, and the sidebar says the tie was broken by head-to-head-record, while all the others tied for 1st were ordered by total points. How can I fix this? This is league 5276.

It's correct as head to head ties can only be broken when there is a sweep by one of the tied teams over the rest or if one team got swept by the rest (in the latter case, they are ruled out for the first spot but the other teams are still tied without a sweep and it goes to the next breaker).

If no sweeps apply with all the teams, which is the case in your league, the next tiebreaker is used to break the tie and then it is reset and the rest of the teams tied are broken starting from the top tiebreaker which is head to head again and it looks for a sweep again and goes down the same line.

I wonder if there is a more appropriate way of doing these head-to-head tiebreakers, without there needing to be sweeps. For example, lets say there is a 3 team tie between A, B and C at the end of the year.

A is 2-1 vs. B and 2-1 vs C. A has 100 total points

B is 1-2 vs. A. and 2-1 vs C B has 101 total points

C is 1-2 vs A and 1-2 vs. B C has 102 total points

So logically I would say that A>B>C. But because there are no sweeps the tiebreaker goes to total points, and now it would be possible for C>B>A.

Instead of looking for sweeps, could the tiebreaker be: If 1 team has a winning record over all of the tied teams they get first spot (A in this example). And similarly, if 1 team has a losing record vs. all teams in the tie breaker they get the last spot (C in this example)?

That's not how we currently break ties and we don't support that, so unfortunately it wouldn't be able to be applied. You can always manually edit waiver positions and playoff seeds as commissioner if you wish or change the tiebreakers to something that may better suit your needs.
