New Jersey Devils GM Lou Lamoriello said "it would be an understatement" to call him happy with the team's current goaltending tandem. Although there were some rumors that the Devils were close to trading Martin Brodeur, we doubt anything will happen before the deadline. For one thing, the Devils supposed trading partner, the Minnesota Wild, have already addressed their goaltending needs by getting Ilya Bryzgalov. Beyond that, it just never made much sense for the Devils to trade Brodeur. At this late stage of his career, he wouldn't provide the Devils with much of a return. Would it really be worth it to trade him now rather than let the long-time face of their franchise finish out what could be his final season in a Devils' uniform?
