As he hunts for a new employer on the free-agent market, Martin Brodeur might be the victim of his own formidable shadow, which he would cast on a team's No. 1 goaltender, even as the most willing and conscientious of backups. That's the opinion of New York Post hockey columnist Larry Brooks, who, like most hockey followers, are waiting to see where the future Hall of Fame goalie winds up as a free agent, if anywhere. Brooks suggests two destinations: Columbus, where Sergei Bobrovsky has established himself as an unassailable No. 1 over the past two seasons, and where Curtis McElhinney is the backup for a young, growing team with championship aspirations. "And though the dynamics in Pittsburgh are difficult to read, it is impossible to believe the Penguins wouldn't be better served with Brodeur rather than Thomas Greiss as the alternative to Marc-Andre Fleury." Brooks writes.
