Forte (toe) was listed as a non-participant at Thursday's practice, Eric Allen of the Jets' official site reports.
EDGE Analysis
Forte is trending in the wrong direction as Sunday's game against the Jaguars approaches. If he misses the contest, Bilal Powell would likely see an increased workload in the Jets' Week 4 backfield, with Elijah McGuire next up for carries and newcomer Travaris Cadet a candidate to suit up for a reserve role.

Forte (toe) was spotted running some routes and catching passes on a side field prior to Thursday's practice, Darryl Slater of The Newark Star-Ledger reports.
EDGE Analysis
It seemed like a foregone conclusion earlier this week that Forte would be held out of the Jets' matchup Sunday against the Jaguars while he recovers from a bout with turf toe, but coach Todd Bowles painted a slightly rosier picture of the running back's health Wednesday, stating that Forte could have a shot at returning later in the week. Forte's presence at practice Thursday in some capacity has his arrow pointing up, but it still looks like he'll be labeled as a limited participant, at best. An official designation for Forte's status heading into Week 4 will come Wednesday, at which point it should be easier to gauge whether or not he'll have a realistic shot at suiting up. If Forte is held out, Bilal Powell and Elijah McGuire would be in line for extra reps on offense, with the newly signed Travaris Cadet potentially seeing a few snaps in third-down scenarios.

Jets coach Todd Bowles said Wednesday that it's still too early to tell if Forte (turf toe) will be available for Sunday's game against the Jaguars. "Too early to tell," said Bowles. "Could be ready by the end of the week, could be another week."
EDGE Analysis
The real takeaway is that Forte is dealing with turf toe, an injury that's notorious for its unpredictability. Players sometimes manage to avoid an absence altogether, but it can also hold them out for multiple games and still cause issues even after they return. A previous report suggested Forte likely will miss at least one game, freeing up additional work for both Bilal Powell and Elijah McGuire. Even if he were to end up playing, Forte likely would be at less than full strength and would still be just one part of a three-man committee.

The Jets are labeling Forte (toe) as week-to-week and aren't expecting him to be available for Sunday's game against the Jaguars, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
EDGE Analysis
In anticipation of Forte's absence, the Jets plan to sign free agent Travaris Cadet to bolster the team's backfield depth, but it's expected that holdovers Bilal Powell and rookie Elijah McGuire will function as the team's Nos. 1 and 2 running backs, respectively, in Week 4. While Forte was cleared of any structural damage to his toe following an X-ray after last Sunday's win over the Dolphins, it appears he's still dealing with either a sprain or significant soreness, which will likely relegate him to the sideline for at least a week. The veteran back had tallied 94 yards on the ground and 58 through the air during the Jets' first three games, but failed to find the end zone.

An X-ray on Forte's toe came back negative, Brian Costello of the New York Post reports.
EDGE Analysis
Forte missed the closing stages of Sunday's 20-6 win over the Dolphins, finishing with eight carries for 25 yards as part of a three-headed backfield. Any absence would free up additional playing time and touches for Bilal Powell and Elijah McGuire.

Forte (toe) had an X-ray after Sunday's 20-6 win over the Dolphins, Brian Costello of the New York Post reports.
EDGE Analysis
Forte left in the second half and never returned to a blowout, finishing with eight carries for 25 yards (and zero targets). As of Monday afternoon, the Jets had yet to provide an update on the results of Sunday's X-ray. Should Forte end up missing time, the Jets' backfield committee will drop from three to two, with Bilal Powell and Elijah McGuire standing to benefit from expanded roles.

Forte is questionable to return to Sunday's game against the Dolphins after suffering a toe injury during the second half.
EDGE Analysis
Forte's toe injury doesn't appear to be a serious issue, but he was forced to the sideline while Bilal Powell figures to assume an expanded role at running back. The Jets may elect to play it safe with Forte as they lead 20-0 nearing the end of the third quarter, but his status for the remainder of Sunday's game is up in the air.

Forte gained 53 yards on nine carries and 38 yards on four receptions (four targets) in Sunday's 45-20 loss to the Raiders.
EDGE Analysis
Forte was far more productive than Bilal Powell, who had six carries for 13 yards and zero catches on two targets. Elijah McGuire also got involved with six carries for 29 yards and a catch for seven yards, getting most of his work while Oakland was only leading by one or two scores. It was actually Forte who thrived in garbage time, with 52 of his 91 yards coming on one fourth-quarter drive. The Jets figure to stick with a three-man backfield committee Week 3 against Miami.

Forte rushed six times for 16 yards and added three catches for 20 yards on five targets in Sunday's 21-12 Week 1 loss to Buffalo.
EDGE Analysis
Forte and Bilal Powell were similarly ineffective, as the former gained 36 yards on nine touches while the latter turned 12 touches into 39 yards. Both should continue to see plenty of looks given the lack of alternative weapons in this offense, but goal-line opportunities will likely be scarce. Until one running back emerges as a clearly superior option, both should continue to cut into each other's value.

Forte said Thursday that Jets general manager Mike Maccagnan told him not to listen to trade rumors, Manish Mehta of the NY Daily News reports.
EDGE Analysis
Forte isn't exactly an ideal fit with the rebuilding Jets, but the team does need someone besides Bilal Powell to handle touches, and the 31-year-old's $4 million guaranteed base salary would be a major obstacle in trade talks. While the possibility of a trade shouldn't entirely be ruled out, Forte likely will open the season in New York splitting backfield work with Powell. The Jets travel to Buffalo in Week 1.
