Ortiz officially retired Tuesday, the Boston Globe reports.
EDGE Analysis
The paperwork has been filed and Ortiz is now officially off the roster. Ortiz and the Red Sox may have fallen short of reaching their ultimate goal of winning the World Series in 2016, but Ortiz finished his career in spectacular fashion with an MLB-best 1.021 OPS, 38 homers and 127 RBI. He hit .286/.380/.552 with 541 home runs in his 20 major league seasons.

Ortiz went 2-for-4 with a go-ahead two-run homer and three RBI overall in Friday's 5-3 victory over the Blue Jays.
EDGE Analysis
Big Papi provided a storybook opening night of his final regular-season series by taking Brett Cecil deep for a 373-foot shot to right that plated Mookie Betts and snapped a 3-3 tie in the seventh. Ortiz had a very quiet final series at Yankee Stadium (0-for-10) so Friday's fireworks were a welcome sight. Despite the mini-slump in New York, Ortiz had slashed an outstanding .333/.412/.644 over 87 September at-bats.

Ortiz went 0-for-1 with a walk in his final game at Yankee Stadium on Thursday.
EDGE Analysis
The veteran DH got only two at-bats before exiting as expected, striking out and then walking. He finishes this series 0-for-10 with four strikeouts, exiting baseball's biggest rivalry with a whimper.

Ortiz will likely be limited to two at-bats Thursday against the Yankees, Tim Britton of the Providence Journal reports.
EDGE Analysis
Ortiz will play Thursday, but not for the entirety of the game. The club wants to have their slugger get some rest before returning to Boston for his final regular-season series at Fenway Park. Ortiz has continued his dominant season, as he's posted a .297/.368/.574 line with seven home runs and 24 RBI over the last 30 games.

Ortiz went 2-for-5 with a three-run homer in Tuesday's 5-2 win at Baltimore.
EDGE Analysis
Ortiz's second home run in as many days provided the margin of victory in this one. Manager John Farrell's decision to give him a day off Sunday preceding this hot streak is looking like a brilliant decision. The designated hitter is slashing .318/.403/.634 in what has been a brilliant campaign.

Ortiz went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run in a 5-2 win over the Orioles on Monday.
EDGE Analysis
The homer was Ortiz's 35th of the year, setting a record for most home runs in a year by a player over the age of 40. Big Papi has shown few signs of slowing down as the end of the season nears, hitting .354/.431/.708 over his last 15 games to raise his batting average to .317.

Ortiz is out of the lineup Sunday against the Yankees, Evan Drellich of the Boston Herald reports.
EDGE Analysis
Ortiz has served as Boston's DH every day that position has been available since Aug. 25. The veteran previously hinted at a day off Sunday, and manager John Farrell will concur, instead starting Travis Shaw at first base. The move will also give fellow veteran Hanley Ramirez a day off from playing the field, as he'll move to the DH role for the evening contest.

Ortiz may not play in Sunday's series finale against the Yankees, Peter Abraham of the Boston Globe reports.
EDGE Analysis
The Red Sox had hoped to have Ortiz in the lineup everyday from here on out during the regular season, but there are days when a 40-year-old athlete feels like a 40-year-old non-athlete. "Today is a bad day to be 40 years old," Ortiz said with a chuckle as he entered Fenway Park on Saturday. With Boston stretching its AL East lead to three games and facing left-hander CC Sabathia, Ortiz could get a one-day respite Sunday.

Ortiz is expected to play in every game for the remainder of the season, Ryan Hannable of WEEI.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Ortiz has dominated his final season in the majors and owns a .314/.400/.619 line with 33 home runs and a team-high 111 RBI. As long as he stays healthy, the 40-year-old DH is set to start for the rest of the season as the Red Sox battle for a playoff spot in the challenging AL East.

Ortiz went 2-for-3 with a solo homer and a pair of runs scored against the Orioles in a 12-2 win Monday.
EDGE Analysis
Ortiz's home run came in the sixth inning as Boston was already up 9-2, and was his 33rd of the season. He's now hitting .318 on the year, which would match his best average since 2007. His 1.034 OPS and 45 doubles are best in all of baseball.
