Fernando Martinez has been suspended 50 games by MLB. Martinez was part of the big Biogenesis bust and won't play again in 2013. The former top prospect posted a promising .325/.394/.554 batting line in 94 plate appearances this season with the Yankees' Triple-A affiliate and will carry a clean slate into 2014.

Astros sent OF Fernando Rodriguez outright to Triple-A Oklahoma City. Rodriguez was designated for assignment by the Astros on Monday evening but passed through waivers and will remain with the club as organizational outfield depth. The former top prospect is headed in the wrong direction.

Astros designated OF Fernando Martinez for assignment. The former top prospect got a late start to the season due to an oblique strain, and he batted only .182/.229/.273 in 11 games after returning. Martinez is still just 24, so someone might take a chance on him on waivers, but it's pretty clear at this point that he'll never come close to living up to his previous hype.

Astros activated OF Fernando Martinez from the 15-day disabled list. Martinez has been out since spring training because of an oblique strain. The 24-year-old should get regular playing time in the Houston outfield while J.D. Martinez recovers from a sprained eight knee.

Astros placed OF Fernando Martinez on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to March 27, with a strained oblique. Martinez has been dealing with the injury for over a week now and had to be scratched from Thursday's lineup. Now that he's been officially ruled out for the start of the season, look for the Astros to target Casper Wells or Julio Borbon should the become available. J.D. Martinez has been recalled in a corresponding move.

Fernando Martinez (back) could begin the season on the 15-day disabled list. Martinez was scratched from Thursday's lineup due to lower back tightness and is scheduled to see a doctor in Houston on Friday. "I think it's the [left] oblique right now," said Martinez. "I feel a little more pain right now than I did before. Hopefully a couple of days off and I'll be back." If a stint on the disabled list is required, it wouldn't be surprising to see the Astros land an outfielder off waivers in the coming days.
