Kubel hasn't officially retired, but isn't actively seeking a contract, the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports. Kubel hit just .224 in 45 games for the Twins last season before being released and he didn't play again. It sounds like he's basically decided to retire at age 32.

Twins released OF Jason Kubel. Kubel refused an assignment to Triple-A Rochester and is now officially on the free agent market. The veteran outfielder batted just .224/.313/.295 with one home run over 176 plate appearances with Minnesota, but he should be able to find a minor league contract.

Jason Kubel refused his assignment to Triple-A Rochester and is likely to be released by the Twins. The veteran outfielder struggled at the plate during his time with the Twins, slashing a meager .224/.313/.295 with one homer over 176 plate appearances. He should be able to find another organization willing to give him a chance, but it will most certainly have to be on a minor league pact.

Twins designated OF/DH Jason Kubel for assignment. He's making way for the arrival of Kendrys Morales. Kubel sports an ugly .224/.313/.295 batting line with one homer over 176 plate appearances this season, so the move comes as no surprise. He won't have trouble finding a gig elsewhere but will surely have to settle for a minor league deal.

Jason Kubel went 0-for-4 in Saturday's loss and is hitting .197 with no extra-base hits and one RBI in 61 at-bats this month. The Twins are about to bring back Josh Willingham and really should be playing Oswaldo Arcia as well, so one wonders if there is going to be any room left for Kubel. He did have a nice April, hitting .288/.360/.425, but even then, he was striking out a ton. He's up to 50 strikeouts after tonight, with a 31% rate per plate appearance that's among the 10 worst in baseball.

Jason Kubel went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles in Friday's loss to the Tigers. Kubel scored a run and drove in a run in the contest. He's off to a very strong start at the plate, slashing .319/.395/.472 with 12 RBI in the early going. Fantasy owners who gambled on a rebound in the reserve rounds of drafts are reaping tremendous profits thus far.

Jason Kubel continued his hot start to the season Wednesday, going 4-for-5 with a solo home run in a loss to the Athletics. Kubel's solo blast was the only run the Twins could muster off of Jesse Chavez in seven innings. The outfielder/designated hitter is now batting a cool .462/.481/.731 with six RBI this season as he looks to bounce back from a terrible 2013 campaign.

Twins purchased the contract of DH/OF Jason Kubel from Triple-A Rochester. Kubel hasn't been all that impressive this spring, hitting just .186 (8-for-43) with one home run and a 16/6 K/BB ratio, but he has secured a spot on the Opening Day roster. The 31-year-old is to see time as a designated hitter and backup outfielder this season and could potentially hit in the middle of the order. This will be his second stint with the Twins, as he previously played with the club from 2004-2011.

Jason Kubel has been told that he will make the Twins' Opening Day roster. It was pretty much a formality that will become official at some point before the March 31 opener. Kubel is hitting just .216 with one homer in 13 games this spring, but he's a known commodity. He'll receive regular at-bats in the DH spot while also backing up in the outfield. "I believe he progressed during the spring and started taking better at-bats," Twins assistant general manager Rob Antony said. "I still believe he's a professional hitter with something left. He has the ability to drive in runs and provide offense."

Jason Kubel reached all three times, going 2-for-2 with a walk Friday against the Mets. Chris Parmelee was probably the biggest threat to render Kubel's presence on the Twins roster unnecessary, but he hasn't done much this spring. Kubel hasn't done much at all himself -- he's batting .200 with one homer and two RBI -- but he'll likely be the DH against right-handers anyway.
