Izturis announced his retirement from baseball Friday, MLB.com's Gregor Chisholm reports.
EDGE Analysis
Izturis signed a minor league deal with the Blue Jays this offseason in hopes of landing a utility job, but he dealt with a shoulder injury during camp and was on the outside looking in at a roster spot, so he decided to call it a career. Izturis will finish his career with a .269 batting average, 39 home runs, 334 RBI, and 93 stolen bases in 909 games over 11 seasons.

Izturis signed a minor league contract with the Blue Jays on Friday that included an invitation to spring training, Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsbet reports.
EDGE Analysis
Izturis had his club option for 2016 declined, but the 35-year-old is back with Toronto anyway. He hasn't appeared in the majors since 2014 due to injuries, where he batted .286 in 38 plate appearances. He'll likely serve as organizational depth with the infield pretty well solidified for the AL East champions.

Izturis's $3 million club option for 2016 was declined, making the 35-year-old a free agent, John Lott of the National Post reports.
EDGE Analysis
Izturis missed the 2015 season with injuries to his groin and shoulder and he's played in just 11 major league games since 2014. He could very well catch on with another team in 2016, but he likely won't provide much fantasy production unless he can win a starting job in spring training.

Izturis (shoulder) underwent surgery Thursday and is likely to miss the rest of the season, Ben Nicholson-Smith of SportsNet reports. Izturis, who has been on the 60-day DL since early-May, is expected to miss the entirety of the 2015 campaign, which will likely end his tenure with the Blue Jays. His contract includes a club option for next season, which Toronto is unlikely to exercise considering his injury history.

Izturis, who is on the 60-day DL with a groin injury, suffered a right shoulder ailment while diving for a groundball Saturday during his rehab assignment at High-A Dunedin, John Lott of the National Post reports. Izturis said he felt the shoulder pop and required an MRI, with the results yet to become available. The infielder played just 11 games with the Blue Jays last season after undergoing knee surgery, and after the groin issue resulted in him opening 2015 on the DL, it appears he'll have yet another injury to rehab.

Izturis (groin) was transferred to the 60-day DL on Friday. There was some hope that Izturis, who suffered a groin strain late in spring training, could return by late April. However, that did not come to fruition, and this move ensures he won't be on the field until June at the earliest. Devon Travis will continue to hold the fort at second base.

Izturis (groin) is not expected to return to game action until late-April, Sportsnet's Shi Davidi reports. Izturis seems to be several weeks away from returning, but the real question here is whether or not there will be a spot for him on the Major League roster when he's ready. The young Devon Travis has been a more-than-admirable fill-in, hitting .313/.421/.563 during the season's first week.

Izturis (groin) was placed on the 15-day DL on Sunday, John Lott of the National Post reports. Izturis was shut down last week due to a groin strain, and was fully expected to begin the year on the disabled list. In his stead, Devon Travis will open the season as the Blue Jays' starting second baseman.

Izturis (groin) will begin the season on the disabled list, Barry Davis of SportsNet reports. Izturis was shut down earlier in the week with a strained right groin, and manager John Gibbons officially confirmed Thursday that the second baseman will begin the year on the DL. That means Devon Travis, Ryan Goins or Steve Tolleson will likely get the nod at second base. Izturis is without a firm timeline right now, but he doesn't figure to miss extended time beyond the first few weeks of the season.

Izturis (groin) has been shut down for the next 10 days and will be unable to play on Opening Day, John Lott of the National Post reports. Izturis was in line to be the starting second baseman, but this injury throws a curveball into the whole situation. Devon Travis is a star prospect in the organization and could be thrust into the starting spot right away, or the team could opt to go with some combination of Ryan Goins and Steve Tolleson. Izturis' injury puts his role on the team in jeopardy as well. If the team does choose to go with Travis, Izturis would likely be demoted to the extra infielder spot, a role at 34 he may be more suited to regardless. Izturis' fantasy value should be severely limited due to a lack of consistent at bats.
