The Cubs have hired Eric Hinske as first base coach. Hinske appeared in 52 games with the Diamondbacks this past season before being given his release in July. The 36-year-old will finish his playing career with a .249/.332/.430 career batting line to go along with 137 home runs and 522 RBI over 12 seasons.

Eric Hinske was ejected from Friday's game against the Cardinals after arguing a called third strike. Hinske, who was pinch-hitting in the seventh, tried to hold up on a two-strike pitch by right-hander Mitchell Boggs, but home plate umpire Mike Muchlinski ruled that he went around. Hinske objected to the call and Muchlinski naturally didn't take kindly to such actions.
