Gregg opted out of his minor league deal with the Mariners on Monday, Greg Johns of MLB.com reports. Gregg, who had been pitching at Triple-A Tacoma, did not receive a call-up from the Mariners, so he'll opt out of his deal in hopes of finding greener pastures elsewhere. In seven appearances for Tacoma, Gregg scattered eight hits and three earned runs across 9.1 cumulative innings.

Gregg signed a minor league contract with the Mariners on Wednesday, Shannon Drayer of 710 AM ESPN Seattle reports. The former closer was clobbered for 12 runs on 13 hits -- including three homers -- in 11 appearances with Cincinnati to begin the year, struggles which were compounded by manager Bryan Price's insistence on using Gregg in high-leverage situations. It led to his designation for assignment last week, but the 36-year-old Gregg will have an opportunity to return to the majors with Seattle if he's able to get it together at Tacoma.

Gregg was designated for assignment Monday. Gregg started the season terribly, and hasn't pitched since allowing three runs over just two-thirds of an inning last Thursday. His ERA sits at an unappealing 10.13 on the season with a 1.69 WHIP. If he goes through waivers unclaimed, the veteran reliever will then decide whether to accept an assignment to the minors or elect free agency.

Gregg gave up a two-run homer while recording just two outs in Tuesday's win over the Cubs. Once again tasked to pitch the eighth inning, Gregg faltered again. He gave up a walk before allowing the two-run homer. Literally anyone else in the Reds bullpen would be a better option to pitch the eighth than Gregg right now.

Reds manager Bryan Price was non-committal when asked about Gregg pitching in the eighth inning again: "He may be. He may not be. It just depends on who I have healthy and who is down there. He's a guy who is experienced as a closer, a setup man and a starter. He's a guy who has been a lot tighter situations than that over the course of his career. As I've told you, the bullpen will be ever evolving. These guys will cut out their roles based on how they perform." Gregg blew a lead on Monday by giving up a two-run homer to Andrew McCutchen. All four batters against him hit hard shots, but two were caught for outs.

Gregg gave up a two-run homer to Andrew McCutchen to blow a 2-0 lead in the eighth inning on Monday. It was infuriating enough that Gregg made the roster over Sam LeCure based on his spring, but then to put him in a high-leverage situation boggles the mind. He won't likely get the next hold situation.

Gregg had his contract selected by the Reds on Sunday. Gregg has officially earned a spot on the Reds' Opening Day roster with the move, likely indicating either Sean Marshall or Trevor Bell, or both, will begin the season on the disabled list. A decision will have to be made once the duo are set to return, and Gregg's pitching over the initial stretch could go a long way in determining what happens.

The Reds have to decide Wednesday whether Gregg will make their Opening Day roster, and there's a good chance he will, the Cincinnati Enquirer reports. Gregg is one of five non-roster players still in camp for the Reds. He and Jason Marquis are the two most likely of that group to make the team.

Gregg has signed a minor-league deal with the Reds and an invite to spring training, the team announced. The 36-year-old Kevin Gregg is likely at the end of his career, after a disastrous 2014 in which he gave up 10 earned runs in nine innings, then was shut down to have bone chips removed from his elbow. It's going to require a lot to convince the Reds he's worth a roster spot in the coming months.

Gregg says he is feeling great after having bone chips removed from his elbow last August, Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports. Gregg has not signed with a team after electing free agency last October, but he is hoping to do so after throwing in front of representatives for several squads Tuesday. He recorded 33 saves just two seasons ago, but allowed 10 earned runs over nine innings in 12 appearances out of the Marlins' bullpen last season.
