Mike Gonzalez allowed a walk-off three-run homer to Carlos Pena to take the loss in Milwaukee's 7-4 setback against Houston. The 10th inning started well enough for the veteran lefty, as he struck out the first two batters he faced. Unfortunately, in the latter whiff, Gonzalez' wild pitch allowed Carlos Corporan to reach first. J.D. Martinez' double was followed by Pena's game-ending 413-foot charge to right. Thursday's outing inflated Gonzalez' ERA from 2.66 to 3.75. The left-handed specialist has a 34/14 K/BB rate over 24 innings.

Mike Gonzalez struggled in his Brewers debut on Friday, allowing two runs on three hits in his inning of work. Gonzalez struck out one in the outing. Most of the damage came via a two run double off the bat of Carlos Gonzalez. He's expected to serve as the primary left-hander in the Brewers bullpen this season, and could even be in the conversation for saves should John Axford face another bout of extreme wildness.

Mike Gonzalez's new contract with the Brewers includes incentives based on games finished. Gonzalez finalized a one-year, $2.25 million contract with the Brewers on Monday. The 34-year-old southpaw would earn an additional $50,000 for 25 games finished, $75,000 each for 30 and 35 games finished and $100,000 apiece for 40 and 50 games finished. He's set to serve as a set-up man, but the incentives are there in case he replaces John Axford at closer.
