Diamondbacks acquired INF Ronny Cedeno from the Phillies in exchange for C Raywilly Gomez. The veteran infielder was designated for assignment by the Phillies this weekend, so they flipped him for whatever they could get. Cedeno will report to Triple-A Reno where he will represent organizational depth in the infield.

Phillies released INF Ronny Cedeno. Cedeno gets the boot after hitting .182 (4-for-22) over 13 games this spring. The move leaves Reid Brignac and Cesar Hernandez as the most likely backup shortstop options, but the Phillies could make an addition in the coming days.

Ronny Cedeno left Monday's Grapefruit League game against the Rays because of lower back tightness. The Phillies are calling the early departure precautionary. Cedeno signed a minor league contract with Philly in mid-January and is trying to win a bench job.

Phillies signed INF Ronny Cedeno to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training. Cedeno struggled to attract a healthy market this winter in free agency after hitting .242/.287/.330 in 288 plate appearances last season between the Astros and Padres. The 30-year-old can play all around the infield but is doubtful to make the Phillies' Opening Day roster.

Ronny Cedeno (head) is likely to return later this week. Cedeno left Monday's game after being hit in the helmet by a pitch, but he's apparently avoided a concussion. "He's moving around a little better," Padres manager Bud Black said. "Hopefully, he'll get back in there."

Ronny Cedeno (head) is not in the Padres' lineup Tuesday. Cedeno left Monday's game after being hit in the helmet by a pitch and admitted to still being "kinda foggy" Tuesday. It's not clear whether he's officially been diagnosed with a concussion, but his status for the rest of the season is up in the air.

Ronny Cedeno left Monday's game against the Diamondbacks after he was hit in the helmet by a Heath Bell fastball in the bottom of the seventh inning. Padres manager Bud Black said after the game that Cedeno was dealing with a bit of a headache and will be monitored overnight. He'll almost certainly be tested for a concussion. The veteran infielder is hitting .268 with three home runs and 21 RBI in 38 games since joining the Padres.
