Montero was released by the Orioles on Tuesday.
EDGE Analysis
Montero, who returned from a 50-game suspension for a banned substance earlier this month, got off to a rough start with Triple-A Norfolk, hitting just .143 with 14 strikeouts in 49 at-bats. He'll look to latch on elsewhere after batting .317 over 126 games for Triple-A Buffalo last year.

Montero was activated from the MiLB disabled list and joined Triple-A Norfolk on Thursday
EDGE Analysis
After completing a 50-game suspension, the 6-foot-3, 235-pound first baseman played in just seven games Triple-A contests before suffering a hamstring injury. The seriousness of the ailment must not have been too bad considering Montero returned after eight days off, and he played both games of Thursday's doubleheader (0-for-7).

Montero (hamstring) was placed on the disabled list Friday, retroactive to June 8.
EDGE Analysis
Montero recently returned from serving a 50-game suspension after testing positive for a banned substance, and will now hit the DL after suffering a right hamstring injury. He has only appeared in five games this season for Triple-A Norfolk, going 4-for-18 with two RBI and two walks. Montero is unlikely to join Baltimore at any poit this season due to their plethora of first basemen, but his first concern is just getting back on the field.

Montero was added to Triple-A Norfolk's roster Wednesday after completing his 50-game suspension, Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports.
EDGE Analysis
The former top catching prospect, now first baseman, was hit with a suspension in September after testing positive for a banned substance. The test results brought his impressive 2016 season (.317/.349/.438) into question, but Montero has posted strong numbers since becoming a professional at age 17. He'll get a chance to jump right back into the action at Norfolk, but Montero -- who has 226 MLB games under his belt -- is a long shot to join the O's this season considering the club's large stable of first baseman.

Montero (suspension) agreed to a minor league contract with the Orioles on Tuesday, Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports reports.
EDGE Analysis
The 27-year-old will provide organizational depth, but only after he serves a 50-game suspension for testing positive for a banned substance. Any remaining optimism surrounding Montero has largely evaporated, as he's struggled at the major league level and is really just a DH-only type at this point (25 starts at first base with Triple-A Buffalo in 2016).

Montero has been suspended 50 games after testing positive for a banned substance, Ryan Divish of the Seattle Times reports.
EDGE Analysis
Specifically, Montero was flagged for a stimulant called dimethylbutylamine which is banned under the Minor League Drug Prevention and Treatment Program. The 26-year-old had put together a solid year, batting .317/.349/.438 in 126 games with Triple-A Buffalo, but he was passed over for a September callup and this suspension will ultimately overshadow his accomplishments. Once considered a top prospect, Montero was suspended in 2014 following an incident with a Mariners scout and he may now be out of chances with big-league organizations.

Montero was named to the postseason International League All-Star team as the designated hitter, the Buffalo News reports.
EDGE Analysis
Montero, the lone Bison to make the Triple-A All-Star team, has raked his way through the International League this season, hitting .321/.353/.446 over 471 at-bats. The 26-year-old is locked in a tight race for the IL batting title as he ranks second in hits (151) and fourth in total bases (209). Montero, who has logged 226 big league games over five seasons, has notched two hitting streaks of 13-plus games this year while batting over .280 in every month of the campaign, including a ridiculous .395 mark in August. Although he's not currently on the Jays' 40-man roster, the team has room to create a spot and give him a deserving promotion for the final month of the MLB season.

Montero was assigned to Triple-A Buffalo on Saturday.
EDGE Analysis
Montero was claimed off waivers from Seattle, and he'll look to reinvigorate his career north of the border. Montero appeared in 38 major league games last season, notching a paltry .223 average with 32 strikeouts and four walks.

Montero was designated for assignment Monday, Oscar Hueto of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Montero was put on waivers over the weekend, and Monday's move likely means a team(s) put in a claim and the Mariners pulled him back with the intent of trading him. The Mariners have 10 days to work out a deal or release him as he is out of options. In any event, Montero's time as a Mariner looks over.

Montero apparently lost the right-handed platoon competition at first base with Dae-Ho Lee as his locker was cleared out Saturday.
EDGE Analysis
The Mariners denied a report that said Montero, who is out of options, cleared waivers and is headed for Triple-A Tacoma. Lee has an opt-out clause in his contract that allows him to become a free agent if he's not on the 40-man roster by Sunday. Montero is 9-for-38 this spring with 12 strikeouts and a walk. Lee is 10-for-40 with a home run, six strikeouts and four walks. If he does make the roster, Lee will platoon at first base with Adam Lind.
