Shields remains focused on continuing his playing career and recently completed throwing sessions in front of representatives from the Tigers, Indians and Rangers, Jon Paul Morosi of MLB Network reports.
EDGE Analysis
With 30-plus starts in all but one season since 2007, Shields could have some appeal to clubs as experienced, durable rotation depth, but that's about all he has working in his favor at this stage of his career. The 37-year-old hasn't posted a sub-4.00 ERA since 2015 and has seen his strikeout rate fall precipitously along with his velocity over the subsequent three years. Unless it's reported that he's added a few ticks to his heater in his workouts, there's little reason to be bullish about Shields' prospects should he resurface in the big leagues at any point in 2019.

The White Sox declined Shields' $16 million option for 2019, making him a free agent.
EDGE Analysis
As expected, the White Sox opted to exercise their $2 million buyout of the veteran right-hander, who posted a 4.53 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 154:78 K:BB across 204.2 innings. Shields' prior major-league experience should help him find work elsewhere, though his days as a reliable fantasy asset appear to be behind him.

Shields allowed four runs on six hits and four walks while striking out six in a no-decision Tuesday against the Indians.
EDGE Analysis
Shields was on the hook for a loss, but his teammates picked him up with a three-run ninth inning to pull out a 5-4 win. The outing pushed Shields to 204.2 innings for the season, the 10th 200-inning season for the 36-year-old. He finishes the season 7-16 with a 4.53 ERA, which is an improvement on the combined 5.60 ERA he posted over the previous two seasons. He enters the offseason as a free agent.

Shields (7-16) allowed two runs on four hits and one walk while striking out five over six innings, securing the victory Friday against the Orioles.
EDGE Analysis
Shields gave up two solo home runs on the day, both to Trey Mancini, but he managed to exit the ballgame with a 7-2 lead. Shields managed to bounce back from a rough start his last time out, surrendering six runs and taking the loss Saturday versus the Angels. He'll carry a 4.53 ERA and 1.30 WHIP with 147 strikeouts into his next outing Thursday against Cleveland.

Shields (5-15) pitched 6.2 innings Thursday, yielding seven runs on 10 hits and a walk in the 7-2 loss to Detroit. He struck out five and allowed three home runs while taking the loss.
EDGE Analysis
Shields held the Tigers off the board in the first three innings before things unfolded. He was taken deep for three solo shots in the sixth inning and was eventually lifted in the seventh after a two-run double by Jim Adduci. The ugly outing bumps his season ERA to 4.59 in 170.2 innings. Shields will have a tough matchup against the Yankees next Tuesday in New York.

Shields (4-14) gave up three runs (two earned) in seven innings but took the loss Saturday. He allowed seven hits but didn't allow a walk and struck out four.
EDGE Analysis
The veteran righty worked through rough command, posting just 59 strikes on 94 pitches. On the positive side, Shield has gobbled up innings for a club playing out the string, failing to pitch into the sixth inning just once in his past nine outings. Across the previous eight before this one, he struck out 50 in 50 frames, which proves he can be useful in some fantasy settings. He might provide more streamer appeal Friday versus the Royals.

Shields allowed four runs (two earned) on five hits and four walks while striking out six over six innings as he didn't factor into the decision Sunday against Tampa Bay.
EDGE Analysis
Shields would leave the game with a 5-4 lead after tossing 114 pitches (67 strikes), but the Rays would tie the game in the seventh to eliminate his chance for the victory. The 36-year-old has struggled to find the win column of late, as he's notched just one win through his previous seven outings. Shields will head into next Saturday's outing against Cleveland with a 4.50 ERA and 118 strikeouts across 150 innings.

Shields (4-12) allowed six runs on seven hits, including three home runs, and three walks while striking out seven over four-plus innings in Wednesday's 11-3 loss to the Angels.
EDGE Analysis
Shields struck out six batters over the first two innings, but gave up solo homers to Mike Trout and Albert Pujols. He danced around trouble in the third and fourth innings before the Angels caught up with him in he fifth. Entering the night, Shields had six quality starts in previous eight games and had managed to limit the long ball during that run. If he's not dealt prior to the trade deadline, the right-hander will look to rebound next Tuesday at home against the Royals.

Shields (4-11) got the loss against the Mariners on Friday, giving up two runs (one earned) on seven hits over seven innings, striking out five and walking one in a 3-1 defeat.
EDGE Analysis
It was a hard-luck defeat for the veteran right-hander, who posted a strong final stat line but was still dealt his 11th loss of the year as his teammates could only manage one run off Seattle starter Wade LeBlanc. He's difficult to rely on at this point in his career, as Shields hasn't posted an ERA below 4.00 since 2015, but he's been on a nice run of late with two earned runs or fewer in four of his last five outings. He'll take the mound next against the Angels next Wednesday.

Shields (4-10) picked up the win in Friday's 9-6 victory over the Royals, giving up four runs (two earned) on five hits and two walks over 6.2 innings while striking out seven.
EDGE Analysis
The veteran threw 67 of 109 pitches for strikes as he bounced back from a brutal performance in Houston in his last start. Shields will take a 4.43 ERA into the All-Star break, but even that mediocre number overstates how well he's actually pitched this season -- he's given up eight unearned runs in his last five starts.
