The Giants re-signed Scutaro (as part of his original three-year contract) and added him to the 40-man roster and then placed him on the 60-day DL as a ceremonial gesture Wednesday, CSN Bay Area's Alex Pavlovic reports. He is still rehabbing his back for life, not baseball, but the Giants did not want the playoff hero's career to end being released, as he was in January. The three-year $20 million contract he signed prior to the 2013 season will just be picked back up and it will expire at the end of 2015. Look for Scutaro to finish out the season on the 60-day DL so that he can retire at the end of the season.

Scutaro (back) was released by the Giants on Wednesday. This move was effectively made last week when the team designated Scutaro for assignment, as the veteran was never going to accept an outright assignment to Triple-A. Back issues plagued Scutaro's 2014 campaign, limiting him to just five games after he appeared in at least 104 games in each of his previous 10 campaigns. The 39-year-old underwent spinal fusion surgery in December and his future is uncertain.

Scutaro was designated for assignment by the Giants on Wednesday, Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Scutaro missed nearly all of the 2014 campaign with a back injury after playing 127 games with the club in 2013. The Giants needed to clear a spot on the 40-man roster for the newly-acquired Norichika Aoki, but plan to keep him as he recovers from spinal fusion surgery.

Scutaro underwent spinal fusion surgery Sunday and will miss at least four to six months, Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Scutaro's missed nearly all of the 2014 season due to a back injury, and the spinal surgery will set him back even further. He is now 39 years of age, and it's possible he has played his last game in the major leagues.

Scutaro (back) has been placed on the 60-day DL. Scutaro was already in danger of missing the rest of the 2014 season, and this move essentially confirms that notion. His transfer will clear up an extra space on the 40-man roster for the Giants' next round of September call-ups.

Manager Bruce Bochy acknowledged Monday that Scutaro (back) is unlikely to return this season, Hank Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Scutaro already seems to be in vacation-mode at this point, as he's already turned to his offseason home in Florida rather than rehabbing at the Giants' spring training facility in Arizona. The 38-year-old still has one more year remaining on his contract after this season, but it's unclear if he plans on keeping his career going.

Giants placed INF Marco Scutaro on the 15-day disabled list with a strained lower back. The veteran infielder has dealt with chronic back issues throughout the season, and managed to play in just five games during his brief stint with the Giants. Fantasy owners can probably write him off completely at this point.

Marco Scutaro (neck) finished 1-for-4 with a run scored Sunday in his return to the Giants' lineup. It was only Scutaro's second game of the season. With his chronic back injury lingering and a new neck issue developing, the veteran second baseman is doubtful to be an everyday player down the stretch and can be ignored in standard fantasy formats.

Marco Scutaro is considered day-to-day due to a stiff neck. Scutaro just returned from his chronic back injury and was already essentially going to be day-to-day the rest of the season. He should be avoided in fantasy leagues.
