EDGE Analysis
Billingsley has had numerous surgeries on his elbow and has not been able to ramp up his throwing without feeling some pain. He has not given up on trying to pitch again, but at the moment it looks highly unlikely that he will be able to make a return to the majors.

The Philadelphia Phillies placed pitcher Chad Billingsley on the disabled list Monday because of an elbow injury, according to the Philadelphia Daily News. Billingsley left his start Saturday due to tightness in his elbow, and interim manager Pete Mackanin said that the team would be cautious with Billingsley, who underwent Tommy John surgery in 2013 and went back on the disabled list earlier this year with a shoulder strain. "Just something didn't look right," Mackanin told ESPN. "In his face you could see in his face that something was bugging him, so we wanted to make sure and take care of it. ... Stiffness, soreness ... he complained about it. We felt it was in the best interest of him, especially after what he's gone through, to take it easy." Jerome Williams, who has been recovering from a hamstring injury, could join the rotation in Billingsley's absence.

Billingsley allowed two runs on six hits over six innings Tuesday to pick up his first win of the season. He struck out three and walked one. The win was Billingsley's first since April 10, 2013. Tuesday's outing was encouraging after he was hit hard last week in his first start back from a rehab assignment. He'll need to string together a few more solid starts before he can be trusted in deeper leagues. His next start will come Sunday against the Giants.

Billingsley (shoulder) will start Thursday's game against the Brewers. Billingsley pitched just three games after returning from an elbow issue before suffering a shoulder strain that sent him to the disabled list for another month and a half. He will finally rejoin the Phillies' rotation Thursday, and the club indicated that a corresponding move will come that day to make room on the 25-man roster.
